Pissed about Bank of America's anti-Union conference call with conservatives?
As a BOA customer, I have been stewing since yesterday over this article detailing their participation in an anti-Union conference call.

As a proud USW member, I cannot in good conscience stay with them unless they issue a full apology and retraction. In a big way.

from the article:

Bank of America spokesman declined a request for public comment, and the bank's representative on the call played a minor role.

...

As evidenced by its dual interpretation of the legislation, Bank of America's role in the EFCA fight is a bit murky. The company, as stated by an official there, hosted the call for the purposes of equity research, meaning that their goal was to represent the opinions of clients and not the bank itself. But their involvement in an effort to drum up support for defeating the labor-backed legislation, so soon after getting bail out funds from the federal government, left a bad taste in the mouth of some union officials.

"Bank of America is now not only getting bailout money. They are lending their name to participate in a campaign to stop workers from having a majority sign up ," said Stephen Lerner, Director of the Private Equity Project at SEIU. "The biggest corporations who have created the problem are, at the very time, asking us to bail them out and then using that money to stop workers from improving their lives."

So I contacted my bank. And of course, the hourly wage person on the other end could not give me any information on an 'official statement' and wasn't able to comment.

But I did get a contact name and phone number.

Scott Silvestri.

1-980-388-9921

Are you a customer? Please consider calling him and politely asking him how Bank of America can do this to the millions of working class people who bank with them, who would like a free choice of their own.

After taking taxpayer dollars - to use that cash - MY MONEY - to donate to Republicans to defeat legislation is beyond disgusting. They need to hear from us on this.

(A quick Google also came up with this number and email address:

Media: Scott Silvestri, of Bank of America, +1-704-388-9921, or

but that number is a direct line, and actually had a cell phone number alt. listed. I left a messge for Mr. Silvestri. I'm crafting an email in case he doesn't respond to me.

8. Here is what I sent:
Employee Free Choice Act - or why does Bank of America hate the working class?

On October 17, 2008, Bank of America Corp. hosted a conference call with certain business officials to organize opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). Participants on this call were also encouraged to donate large sums of money to vulnerable Republicans facing tough re-election bids because they would support opposition to the EFCA. This was just three days after receiving 25 billion dollars from the American taxpayers. I happen to be one of those American taxpayers whose money you are now living high off the hog with. I am also a Bank of America customer and have been for over 15 years. I also happen to be the proud wife of a Teamster. I am not asking you – I am flat out demanding that Bank of America Corp. immediately apologize for such reprehensible actions.

I would truly be sad to have to end my relationship with Bank of America, but if you don’t support me and my Teamster husband, why on earth should we support you?

9. great email - Here's mine

mine:

Personally offended by my bank

When I read the article about Bank of America, MY FAMILY'S BANK (with 6 accounts there) taking part in a conference call with conservative activists and Republican strategists to plan political action to stop the Employee Free Choice Act, I felt like I was punched in the stomach.

I am a member of USW, and exceedingly proud of my union affiliation. The living wage my union job affords me allows me to utilize your Keep The Change program and an automated savings transfer. I proudly brought each of my 3 children into my local branch to open accounts with their Christmas and birthday money.

Now I find out you may be donating to help elect people solely for the purpose of having them vote against the Employee Free Choice Act, which will give more and better wages and benefits to working people (who can then afford to open bank accounts and not overdraw them, heck, maybe even start saving, like I finally can). If there is no statement from Bank of America within a week, I will closing all of our accounts, as I cannot in good conscience continue banking with a company who works directly against something I so strongly support; something that has improved my life.

I look forward to the courtesy of a response.

10. That's great. They need to hear that people are directly affected by this
and in turn, we will directly affect them.

are crawling out of the woodwork and surfacing in such scads that my moratorium on use of that descriptive term must be suspended for the duration. :P
