Toyota to recall over 1 million cars worldwide
Wow that's a lot of little Yodas

Toyota Motor Corp said Wednesday it would recall more than 1.35 million Vitz and two other models globally to fix a defect in the seatbelt, a component in the exhaust system or both.

Subject to the recall in Japan are 525,898 Vitz, Belta and Ractis cars built from January 2005 to April 2008, Toyota said in a filing with the transport ministry.

Toyota also said it will recall a combined 830,000 units of the Vitz subcompact and Belta — called Yaris in many markets, including the United States — exported to Europe, North America and other countries.

9. They're in shock.
I haven't had a recall on a car since 1995.

I drive Fords.

20. Our '95 Taurus was recalled several times.
And it *SHOULD* have been recalled for a corrosion problem that
causes the rear disc brakes to lock up, but it never was.

So you can dismount your high horse now.

31. Perhaps Ford learned its lesson from intentionally burning so many people up

If so, good on them.

And good for all of us.

5. DU's ads are making me chuckle again. This thread has an ad for finding
the best deals on a new or used Yaris.

Advertising fail, I'm not interested in the least.

8. Not many have actually worked in the auto industry - of any kind.
Their "expertise" comes from having a drivers license, I guess.

19. Yup. I was at Chevy CO when COPOs started in the late 60s.
It was part of the attitude back then ... the "customer is king" ... and keeping the Chevy brand out front for muscle and show cars. There was no small amount of EDP/MIS work done in the Order System to accommodate that flexibility, too. (I was in MIS at Chevy.) At the time, Chevy was vertically organized - with it's own fab and assembly operations. When they merged brands in the same plants, such brand flexibility got more problematic ... but I was gone by then.

27. OH OH OH, I worked (apprenticed) at Malcolm Konner Chevrolet in Paramus NJ
And I, ME, MOI, had the PRIVILAGE of checking in and verifying ALL of the COPO orders when they came in. The 427 Camaros and Chevelles, the 350/350 Nova WAGONS, all of the odd ball stuff, 427 Biscayne's and Bel Airs, the first Z28's in 1967 (I bet only a few of us know how many were REALLY made) L88 Corvettes, L89 Chevelles and Camaros, ZL1 Camaros (we got two, and I drove 'em both), and on and on.

Me very jealous, and I am in awe that I have finally MET someone from my era who knows what I am talking about.

11. When I posted that Toyota had the highest recall rate, I was
actually told by another DUer that it was because Toyota cares about their customers.

21. And that's true.
As I mentioned, our Taurus *SHOULD* have been recalled
for a blatant and endemic brake failure, but it never was.

And how did Ford treat those cars where the bolts on the
differential ripped open the gas tanks on rear-impact crashes?

Recalls, while not a great thing, are better than *NOT FIXING
OBVIOUS DESIGN PROBLEMS*.

Or then there's our '96 Dodge Caravan where after we paid
to replace the radiator cooling fan solid state relay several
times, Dodge finally recalled the car for one final swap where
they put in a part that could actually withstand the electrical
stress. Did they give us our repair money back? In your dreams!

Tesha

13. This is interesting, to say the least.
As much as like my Rav4, I can't tell you the number of times I've received letters from Toyota informing me that something has to be fixed or changed or repaired--cruise control or some other thing. There have been at least six notices from Toyota since the time I bought the car back in 2002.

23. Hubs, I didn't realize this was you!
My only comment is, I desperately want the thirthieth anniversary edition of the 1977 black Trans Am with T-Tops, the Smokey and the Bandit car.

As I posted here before, my favorite car was my first car, the AMC Pacer. I have no clue who made it, or where it came from.
