4. I showed that to the students in my digital arts class yesterday.

I said he might just be closing his eyes at the time of the shutter click. They all agreed that he is snoozing.

By the way, I found myself in the panoramic photo, too! You can't see my face because I'm looking down as well, but it was because my legs were killing me.

I hate to defend Thomas (*ick! ick!*), but there's any number of reasons he's sitting there with his eyes closed.

16. Uncle Thomas: the real angry black man
He's angry at women. He's angry at other African Americans who didn't sell their souls and make Faustian bargains. He's angry at anyone who might have been given help to succeed, even though he's a direct beneficiary of Affirmative Action

He's probably super-angry at Obama, for being happy, for not compromising his principles, for having the confidence to be himself and make a life dedicated to what he believes in--only to rise to the highest office of the land with an honesty and genuine compassion that withered and shriveled in Uncle Thomas eons ago.

21. Also, during one of the debates
Obama was asked which SC justice (paraphrased) was the least qualified for the job out of the 9, and Obama said Thomas. So there is no love lost between those two.

Old men are likely to fall asleep just about anywhere.....and there isn't any time or place that we might not have to take a break and go pee too.

24. This is not so uncommon for Clarence
Oral arguments, Mauro writes, devolved quickly into a dense debate over the ambiguous wording of the RICO statute, and “the tedium left at least two justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Clarence Thomas, struggling to stay awake, with mixed success.” Mauro notes this isn’t rare for Thomas, but it is not as common for Ginsburg.
