I don't watch this crap, but apparently, there are enough fans that makes this an economically viable source of entertainment for a large segment of our society.

Hey, I enjoy movies where I know it's a movie, but when I get to see two guys trying to beat the shit out of each other for money, it makes me ill.

Anyone else? Or am I a "prude?"

7. I hate that UFC shit.
The fact that it's so popular...I don't know. Lust for violence is kind of creepy.

8. The vast majority of DUers who vote in polls lust for violence.
Additionally, pay attention to threads where someone committed a terrible crime, you will see calls for torture and death.

9. The people that create weapons to kill consider the creation of those
weapons an art. To feel that art you must die. The world is fugging crazy!

15. Perhaps it is just me
but I cannot conceive of the thought that someone beating someone else senseless, with his fists or any other part of his body, can be thought of as art or sport.

16. Well, unlike Monster Truck rallies . . .
. . . at least the audience doesn't usually have to die.

So, that's a plus.

17. Hardly any worse than the other garbage on television. It's junk food for the brain
sometimes people like junk food, some like chips some like candy. To each their own.

18. No... brain candy is reruns of Three's Company or Die Hard.
This crap is reminiscent of the Roman Coliseum.

19. It's not disimilar to any sports, really
People watching laundry throw a ball around and putting their whole self esteem on the line over it.

So it goes. To each their own.

20. Sorry, Andrew. Two people beating each other senseless is not the same
as team sports, tennis, golf or any number of other sports.

24. How so?
While the fighting sports concentrate on the complete domination of another physically, mentally and basically rendering your opponent unable to respond, other sports do not go to that extreme.

23. I don't see anything wrong with it.
If that's what they like to do.

My son studies Kempo and MMA fighting, he is 16.

He loves it, they do it to burn off some steam, some of that young male testosterone.

He won't be doing it professionally since he is hoping to become an aerospace engineer.

If he gets into Air ROTC or NROTC his training should help him get through boot camp with ease.

25. MMA is one of the only things I consistently watch on TV anymore
I like the competition aspect. I also like that fighters who are put into an impossible situation with regards to submissions almost always quit rather than risk damage. I think it is actually an important lesson about knowing when to "live to fight another day".

Admittedly some of the fighters are unrelenting, arrogant jerks but that's common in pretty much every sport.
