Remember this woman? The one who got 20 years in the 70's for a first time heroin offense after being promised probation and then escaped? Then she led a model life under an assumed name, marrying and having children, only to be captured last year and sent back to prison?
Well, she's being paroled in May. Thank God. It's about the only good thing the state ever did in her case. I'm really glad she decided to take matters into her own hands and escape. She would have spent a good chunk of her life wasting away in a cell otherwise. Her case is a perfect example of why the drug war is totally messed up.
LANSING, Mich. -- A California woman captured last year after escaping from a Michigan prison in 1976 will be free again on May 19, the state parole board ruled Wednesday in a unanimous decision.
The board granted Susan LeFevre's request, but her behavior in prison will be closely watched until then because of 11 misconducts, said Russ Marlan, spokesman for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
LeFevre was granted a fixed release date. Any more misconducts could push back her release date.
