Walked into my university's library tonight to get a drink of water/use the bathroom before heading home. Stopped to browse the bulletin board in hope of finding work. Saw a truly disgusting piece of right wing propaganda crap (apparently homemade by some lone freeper, since there wasn't a group name on it), which read as follows:
*** UNIONS DEMAND THE RIGHT TO HIRE/PROMOTE.
THAT'S HOW STALIN ROSE TO POWER. ***
Cue instant seething :mad:RAGE:mad: on my part. I had that thing off the wall, crumpled up, and in the trash in less than 5 seconds.
Was it perhaps un-progressive of me to censor the schmuck's flyer like that? Yeah, maybe. But morally wrong to rip down a piece of blatant disinformation and propaganda? No, I don't think so. And I felt much better after scrapping it.
If some rightwinger dislikes unions, he needs to have the guts to make an educated, intellectually honest, argument about why he dislikes them. Hell, even providing links to anti-union articles online would be acceptable. He wants to do that? Fine. That's his opinion, I disagree with it, but I'll respect his right to express it rationally.
But flat-out lying and directly associating American unions with a genocidal tyrant because he's too lazy to come up with an honest argument? I'm sorry, that's unacceptable.
