9. Nope
The media is a money making business that needs to fill seats in the talking head business because it is cheaper to have screaming people on TV then it is to pay actual reporters.

11. It works like this:
When repubs are in power the media focuses on repubs. When dems are in power the media focuses on repubs.

Questions?

Disgusting, isn't it? Lou Dobbs, who I can barely stand to watch for even a few seconds, is already going after Obama. I recall that Dobbs practically had his head up boosh's butt until the Iraq war started going badly & the immigration issue caught on. But now, he's all over Obama from day one. :eyes:

13. Old Habits Die Hard...
The one thing the GOOP was good at over the past decade is flooding the cables with their bobble heads. They used to have a "school" to train these goons. And they made them very available...hell, they even provided their own cameras and satellite hook-ups. Not only did they make it into the Producers rolldexes, they made sure they stayed there...working the refs to always get a face or three on to provide "balance".

Remember, as of last week, there are a lot of unemployed repugnican bobble heads out there. They've got nothing better to do than try to beg their way onto the cables to stay relevant.

15. Keep Blogging...Keep Reaching Out...
In the end the corporate media is a weathervane. They tend to lag behind where the country is and then overcompensate to try to catch up. I do think we've seen a change over the past couple years...slow and steady, and generally positive. Two years ago there wasn't a chance a Rachel Maddow would get on MSNBC yet have her own show. I remember a cryptic Keith Olbermann email back in 2004 that indicated how tight a leash he had on him, but to keep up the support and it would enable him to take chance...we did, he did and it trasnformed both the network and the balance of the cables.

I don't believe the GOOP controls the media...it's dominated by corporate interests who support the GOOP...but also know that right now that doesn't serve their short term agenda. The days of "deregulation" are over...and with the Democrats now in charge, we'll see how long the repugnican talking points get the play they do.

My "crusade" is in pushing both the FCC and Congress to do the long overdo "revisit" of Telcom '96...the bill that enabled these large corporations to dominate the airwaves and the cable. It gave birth to the boom of hate radio and Faux Noise...replace local programming and ownership with national shows aimed at a small, targeted audience. We need to restore regulations such as the number of stations a company can own per market, shortening license renewal periods, giving local and minority groups priority in control of broadcast licenses and open up the airwaves to a diversity of voices and programming.

Cheers...
