Google Earth reveals two-acre field of weed to Swiss police

Google Earth has proven useful for a plethora of things—finding your house from space, checking out islands in the Pacific Ocean, and now, finding massive fields of weed. At least that's what happened in Switzerland, when Swiss police managed to come across a "large marijuana plantation" while using Google's popular software.

Swiss police say that the marijuana field was discovered in Thurgau sometime last year while they were investigating a suspected drug ring. Officers were apparently trying to use Google Earth to locate the exact address of two farmers they suspected of being involved in the ring, and came across the two-acre-large planation hidden in a field of corn in the process. "It was an interesting chance discovery," Zurich police's specialist narcotics unit Norbert Klossner told the Associated Press. No kidding.

The investigation had already yielded the seizure of 1.2 tons of hash and the arrest of 16 people. The criminal investigation targeting the 16 suspects (which we presume to include the two farmers) is scheduled to wrap up in February, and Prosecutor Gabi Alkalay said that she plans to ask for prison sentences for all involved.

4. You can grow marijuana in Switzerland?
And they don't have the market sense to legalize and tax it?

8. Wait for what? Global warming?
You can't grow weed in that climate. You might have a short season, one very short, short season.

12. Some areas of Switzerland sports a very mild climate The south
west is rather mild.

I remember seeing it growing near Grand Rapids Mich. I was helping a friend move into a farm he just bought and out in the garden was a very tall pot plant. I've heard of it growing in Alaska. It's a weed, it grows everywhere. I saw it growing in the south Sahara.

Switzerland is not much further north of Afghanistan, and south of Paris. If they can grow corn, they can grow pot.

The length of the season just changes the growth stages. It's the sun that determines flowering. That's the same for much of the plant world.

9. Well, it's grass right?
Have you seen the grass in Switzerland? Nice grass!

That's what I remember most on my last trip - and I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon; producers of 60% of the worlds cool season grass seed.

And you didn't think you'd learn anything today...

(Even if it was stupid)

The version I use isn't nearly that good. I still say the gub-mint has capabilities far beyond what any version of Google Earth has. They can read the date on a nickel laying on the sidewalk, I always say. From fricking outer space.

11. Geez people, think
Growing out in the open in most of the industrialized world is a sure ticket to getting busted. What between helicopters, planes and now fucking Google, a dense concentration of dope stands out like a sore thumb. Guerrilla grow, a plant here, a plant there, strung out for a mile or more.:banghead:

13. Yeah, well, the picture of my house is over 4 years old
on google earth, so it stands to reason shots of Switzerland would be far more up to date. . . . . ..
