Shout Out! DU Progressives might want to watch this Video where Podesta answer questions!
John Podesta Responds To Your Questions»;/b]

VIDEO HERE:
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/01/29/podesta-responds /

Yesterday, ThinkProgress provided our readers an opportunity to ask John Podesta questions pertaining to his service on the Obama transition team. You responded with great enthusiasm, offering more than 100 comments and questions. Thank you!

I sat down with John yesterday afternoon for about 20 minutes. In that period of time, we were able to get to 8 of your questions. The first one I asked him was the top-rated question, as voted on by the ThinkProgress community. It was submitted by user curtisteff, and it read:

“Why is President Obama giving up so much to try to appease the conservatives?”

“Does Obama plan to create some kind of commission to look into past abuses of our obligations under both domestic law and foreign treaty?”

“Is Single-Payer, Universal Health Care off the table?”

“How were you able to get a man who has usually been so divisive to work together in order to meet your goals?”

“How much of the flurry of regulation weakening and last-minute government appointments done by Bush in the closing days of his administration does Obama expect to reverse?”

“Did you ever consider scrapping or massively reorganising Cabinent level positions?”

“Who will play the part of that progressive attack dog?”

“What are the ways for citizens in communities to help President Obama?”

1. I liked this dialogue between two people remarking on their reactions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

freeman Says:
john ,
I guess I am expecting too much on the answer of whether or not Obama’s administration intends to look into Bushes abuses of the past 8 years . We have already heard this answer from Obama before and to be candid it sounds disappointing and at best a bit like passing the buck .
If our laws and our treaties can be violated with such impunity , if 100’s of 1000’s of people can be killed and wounded based on outright lies , our basic rights violated , our international reputation tortured and our constitution destroyed and applicable laws never applied to the ELITE perpetrators , our system of laws has failed miserably.
How can other countries and indeed our own citizens trust the American government when the rule of law had broken down so badly.
The old saying goes that a man is only as good as his word and let me submit that the same applies to nations and governments . We have fallen so very far when the crimes are so numerous and utterly transparent to the majority of the planet .

Then
conniptionfit says:
I guess it really is as simple as figuring out exactly who Obama’s constituency is; the villagers inside the beltway who were complicit in Bush’s crimes, or the citizens outside the beltway who believed that Obama understood their concern over the trashing of law and order, and an executive who believed he was above the law.

2. Yes...I thought Podesta was weak on prosecution...BUT.the rest is Great ...and worth watch.
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 09:18 PM by KoKo01
My sense is that Podesta doesn't want to "go there" right now because Obama needs to get his Simulus passed and the RW is already crawling over him. Imagine if Podesta said: "Yes, we are going to immediately Prosecute the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld regime for WAR CRIMES. Limbaugh and the the McCorporate Media would be all over him like flies on honey...and they'd go after Obama like they did Clinton. Vince Foster and dead bodies...and whatever they would dig up.

You have to listen to the whole two parts of the video to get the STRATEGY. And, I'm a Progressive who won't rest until their sorry ASSES ARE HAULED BEFORE THE COURTS...but it takes time and patience to build the case and get the facts. Our Economy is Imploding. There's time to get Busholini's for their crimes..

3. Obama holds all the cards. Does he need to be so careful when
Edited on Thu Jan-29-09 09:27 PM by truedelphi
His political strength right now is such that many commentators are saying that the Democrats might be in Power for the next twenty years?

As far as Rush Limpauw, he doesn't really have that many listeners. He's a joke, and although what he says does matter if you are talking about certain Congressional districts where 65% of the voters are repugs, for the rest of America, he is irrelevant. This notion of any Democrat having to adjust their spiel to please the Repugs is utter nonsense. And it leads those of us with more radical leanings to wonder if Obama is much more DLC than the Public wants or needs.

4. Obama has to conserve his strength and move slowly. What they did to Carter and Clintons
was that the kneecapped both early on in the first months. I'm sure Obama was warned by Podesta and others as to what the Media (worse now than even with Clinton in his early term) and the RW can do. The Repugs have had power for decades. Remember they were behind the scenes in the Clinton years. This whole economic meltdown was what the Bushies left him...so that he would be handicapped along with all the Dems. He has to pick his battles...he's only been in office for a week. He's made a good start...and while his economic team sucks...hopefully he can blame them early and weed the most aggregious ones out before they do too much more damage. For now...he's stuck with them...and the Bush mess until he can at least get a Stimulus through...and if it doesn't work in a few months then "Off with their Heads!"

5. It might be that with his election, the internet has become the new media
Newspaper sales are down, and more and more, people only turn to the news if they need immediate info (In my area, it's where the firestorms of the summer are located so I know which highways to avoid.)

It is amazing that O was elected. To think that just 16 months ago, he was a "Sleeper" who was being told that Hillary had the whole game wrapped up, but his running would give him practice for eight years from now.

I agree with you in despising his economic team. Keeping my fingers crossed they don't do too much damage.
