Okay DU Techies I've got a question for ya.
I'm currently job hunting and have searched out many jobs online via, careerbuilder, monster, etc. Many of the jobs I've applied to require that I fill out an entire profile in addition to uploading a resume.

I don't have a problem doing the registration thing... whatever if it'll get me a job. But the friggin resume upload... Dear God! Once I upload the resume it often gets sent through some kind of automatic resume reader which slices it all up and theoretically breaks it down into bite sized sections. However, these damned readers never get it right. They fill out every section with mangled excerpts of my resume in nothing anywhere close to a logical order. I then have to go in and manually copy and paste my information into every section. I wouldn't mind it if I only had to do this for the job search sites that I've been looking at, but I've had to do this for just about every single freaking job that I've applied for... Well, anyway, if I could streamline this by formatting my resume in a way that these programs can actually read, it would save me a lot of time, and I could apply for even more jobs.

I welcome any advice. Any at all.

2. I'd recommend avoiding those services. Stick with answering local ads
and search craiglist.

3. I know there are some privacy issues but when you are out of the job you should do what you can
anyway to get your information out there should be pursued, no?

4. Why throw your resume on a big internet pile? Find out who is hiring
or thinking of hiring and submit resumes directly.

5. I don't disagree with that but at the same time I think you should seek every avenue possible
even if it is just throwing your resume in a big pile.

6. With the kind of jobs I'm looking for my city doesn't have a lot to offer
I'm a computer modeler / animator, who can also do hand drawn illustrations. I'm specifically applying for jobs in the motion picture / broadcasting / and game industries.

I live in Orlando, where the only companies in the area with the word Studios at the end are primarily theme parks, and don't really do much in the way of production.

I'm applying at every company I can think of that has a need for what I do. I'm not limiting myself to local jobs, especially if I can freelance from home anyway. I don't have a problem with filling out a profile for every company I apply to if it will help me get a job, my only complaint is the auto resume reader used on these sites. I'm guessing they use information like line breaks, indents and keywords to break everything up, but I don't know exactly how they do it. If I knew that, I would write a resume that works better with the auto reader, I could spend less time "fixing" and more time actually applying.

7. A suggestion....
You might want to search out some developer's forums for iPhone apps - there are some scaling issues in game illustration for the iPhone but if you can do it you can get a *lot* of contract work.
