So the leaders of both major parties are African American
It's a sick joke, of course, that the repukes elected a black man as head of the RNC and the de facto repuke leader. Do they really think this will improve their image? Do they think that AAs will suddenly flock to the Ghastly Old Party? And Michael Steele is no Howard Dean or Barack Obama. He's about as inspiring as a bump on a log. Not that it wasn't smarter of the pukes to elect Steele over Dawson, a former anti-desegregationist.

3. i have to admit this does worry me a little
IF (and that's a huge IF) the GOP is smart with this, they can lure away more AAs than you think...Having met Steele professionally, I can say without doubt that he isn't competent enough to run a Starbucks (but he has been popular with some black churches and the deep-pocketed business community)...But as a showy figurehead saying the right things with high visibility and the pranksters/bloggers/friendly media/fundies working behind the scenes, it would be wise not to underestimate their potential

5. He Won't Get The Chance...
The real power in the repugnican party are the rich old white men who you don't see but control both the party and the purse strings. The RNC faces a big challenge as its primarily an ATM machine for the party and that's what Steele's job will be...keeping the big money boys happy and hope they refill depleated party coffers. This sure doesn't sound like "outreach" to me.

He'll be a shadowy figure...he always has been...but a shallow one as well. His voice in political matters will be minimal...especially in a party bitterly divided. This man is no Howard Dean...and his tenure is already doomed as he'll never be the true head of the party.
