1. Before you contribute to this or any poll, be aware of this:
You vote is NOT anonymous.

FYI

6. The unwashed masses of DU cannot link votes to posters, but the management can.
It would be a trivial exercise to uncouple polls from user id, but the management is unapologetic about this policy.

One particular poll asked an incindiary question with one of the responses essentially suggesting that certain trains of thought were unworthy of continued existence. A number of the people who selected that response were tombstoned.

5. So? What is there to hide? If people can't be honest about themselves
then how in the world is government supposed to legislate policy for them?

8. I suppose you have a point. However, some of these polls ask some interesting questions.
If you know that your response can be traced back to you, it makes a difference.

It's important to know.

7. The L Curve: or how to govern a prison.

That thin red vertical line on the far right represents the actual rich. The essentially flat red horizontal line that runs from that line all the way to the left is everyone else. The red line represents a graph of family income across the population. The height of the curve at any point is the height of a stack of $100 bills equalling that income.

http://www.lcurve.org/

To govern a prison with minimal cost, divide the inmates against each other.

9. For the last 10 years
I have made from 200 to 250k but this year my business is going in the tank. We are trying to hold on but it doesn't look good. Four families are dependent on our survival. I know you all would assume I am wealthy but I am not. Much of my profits have gone back into my small business over the years and I do not have major investments. I live in a modest ranch and drive a 2000 Eldorado. I have always voted liberal and always will.

10. So - your salary was 200-250k? Or the business had sales of 200-250k?
Edited on Sat Jan-31-09 09:44 AM by geckosfeet
There is a big difference.

14. I was going to ask the same question
There is a big difference. A business can have sales way over 250,000.00 and be very close to just breaking even or taking a loss.

I am sure he was talking about his business. If he is taking a salary of 250,000.00 and is worried about the 4 families that are dependant on said business, it would be time for him to take a paycut.

Depends a lot on bonuses and wife's S corp income.

Right now I'm making $0, but that should change shortly.

I would have had no problem, and would have no problem should my income rise to that level again, paying reasonable higher taxes. The 95% rates of Beatles fame were obviously silly and resulted in a huge brain drain from the UK, but the 50% or so Eisenhower rates mentioned in a sister thread would be a good compromise between revenue generation and encouragement to succeed.

But I would suggest taxing unearned income higher first. The estate tax should be repealed and replaced with an inheritance tax with progressive rates that could and should reach much above 50% at the highest multi-multi-million levels. Likewise capital gains should be taxed at least as high as earned income. Get rid of the silly cap on FICA too. Do all that and we'd be in much better shape.

15. Remember Dennis Hastert
saying no one that makes less than $40K pays taxes? I'm short of $40K and I'm paying almost $4 thousand. FUCK YOU Dennis Hastert. You have no idea what you are talking about. I don't mind paying the tax. I just mind rich ass holes looking down their nose at me.

16. And you don't get
to charge your gas off on a credit card either and you don't get to claim your gas on taxes either. You are taxed to death. Just like the justice system.

Got no money you go to jail.
