Drum Major Suspended for Waving at Obama
Drum Major Suspended for Waving at Obama

Regulations are regulating all over this piece.

In news of the insane: John Coleman, an Ohio fireman who participated as a drum major in the Presidential Inaugural ceremonies earlier this month, received a six-month suspension for nodding at President Barack Obama as his band - the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial Pipes & Drums - passed him on the big day. Oh, and he slightly waved. What?

It's true.

The band's leader, Pipe Major Mike Engle, said John broke the rules and violated the decorum required in a military parade. He added that everyone was warned ahead of time to not make gestures, and that the suspension was fair.

John, for his part, doesn't believe he did anything untoward, but has quit the band to alleviate the tension his suspension caused. "There are too many bridges burned with the pipe band, too many hurt feelings on both sides," he says of his leaving.
