Michael Phelps caught smoking pot! Oh Noes!
I'm watching CNN and they are going on and on about this Michael Phelps photo of him taking a hit from a bong and I'm thinking, for God's sake, it's not like he took a machete and slashed 3 people to death! So the man got stoned at a party, big deal!

But I think the bigger picture in this non-story is how the powers that be, led by the MSM, has and continues to demonize marijuana and it helps to illustrate why politicians and lawmakers are so reluctant to use simple common sense when it comes to decriminalizing marijuana and/or allowing its use for medical purposes.

Thoughts?

2. The machete would have been much more generally acceptable.
Hemp? Eek. That just won't do. Tut tut.

3. I suppose smoking pot makes you not want to do anything
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Looks like the drug warriors are gonna need a new line of propaganda. The drug war really is run by a bunch charlatans.

It's really funny. Their latest campaign has kids giving up all these activities (mainly sports) and the blame is the whacky tobaccy!!!

Now a guy who won a record 9 medals is smoking up.

Amazing how this stuff writes itself.

4. "So the man got stoned at a party, big deal!"
Not a big deal at all.

The drug war, however, is a big deal. We are the most punishing nation on earth, largely because of the drug war, started under Wilson, a Democrat, then expanded to absurd levels under Nixon and all following regimes. This is a national shame we must end somehow.

"Jon, I'm here at this local highschool showing the swim team Phelps smoking pot, and asking about the negative effects of seeing a great athelete doing drugs. Many say they didn't even KNOW he smoked pot"

Jon: "Right, but if there is such a negative effect on youth to see great atheletes smoking pot, shouldn't we maybe let it slide, and not broadcast a slip up at the party to every young person in the country?"

<insert humor here>

7. He was just acting youthful.
"I'm 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me. For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public -- it will not happen again.":P Michael Phelps

9. The IOC does NOT consider pot to be a "performance-enhancing drug"
thank goodness.

The image of "Michael Phelps, Incorporated" is another matter, though, at least by his sponsors.
