NYT, PAGE ONE: An accumulating body of evidence is at odds with statements of Atty. General Gonzales
For Gonzales, More Records, and Questions
By ERIC LIPTON and DAVID JOHNSTON
Published: March 25, 2007

WASHINGTON, March 24 — An accumulating body of evidence is at odds with the statements of Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales that he played little role in the deliberations over the dismissal of eight United States attorneys.

Mr. Gonzales has said he did not take part in any discussions of the dismissal effort, and left the planning and execution of the removals up to D. Kyle Sampson, his former chief of staff.

But e-mail messages and other documents released by the Justice Department in recent days suggest that Mr. Gonzales was told of the dismissal plan on at least two occasions, in 2005 when the plan was devised and again in late 2006 shortly before the firings were carried out.

The conflicts between the documentary record and Mr. Gonzales’s version of events have contributed to an erosion of support for him in Congress, where lawmakers from both parties have called for him to step down. They have also fed suspicions by some Democrats that the ousters, from the start, may have been orchestrated by the White House, and most particularly, by Karl Rove, the White House political adviser.

The disparities are giving Democrats in Congress a rationale to transform what started as an inquiry focused on the ouster plan itself into a much broader and perhaps even more damaging look at misleading, or at least inaccurate, statements by the Bush administration figures involved in the effort....

What was the federal statute that was broken? It's an "At will" kind of employment.

7. It's clear that this was a mid-term election strategy to attack Dems in key districts.
There's no other explanation, considering the timing and the 'litmus test.' When the handwriting was on the wall that the GOP was going to lose control of the House, Rove lit backfires to protect the seats (asses) getting burnt by corruption and tried to redirect US Attorneys to smear challengers.

This is far worse even than Nixon's use of the FBI.

the GOP's cronies who did play along, hadn't conspired with Rove, Bush and Gonzo's grand plan to steal our votes again last November.

What if everyone in America just started lying to the folks they work for, 24/7, about everything?

21. Disrespecting the people...
... "Wag the Dog" because he is in charge (The Decider) and to hell with the people? :sarcasm:

Everything about "W" and his cronies is about Disrespecting the people, "Congress is not going to tell him anything", all the advise on Iraq & he chooses SURGE, his attitude about 'entitlement', VA funding, Postal Reform, Medicare, Social Security? This president is disrespectful to the American People - He stole the first election by crook; he thinks he is above the law; America is sick & tired of King George - Read the Declaration of Independence, it applies today as much as it did 250 years ago...

:grr:

K&R - Nixon was a saint next to "W"

23. He stole the 2004 election too--if you
have ever studied statistics its real obvious. When almost every difference of the "actual" vote count from the exit polls went in Georgies favor you know you had a bogus election. In an honest election the deviance from the exit polls would have gone equally to both candidates.
Exit poll discrepancies also made it ovious they were stealing congressional elections in 02 and 04.

10. Were the latest documents leaked?
I'm having a hard time understanding why the crooks are releasing the e-mails. Could they really have thought we couldn't find enough people to read them? Given their "we can do whatever we damned well please" attitude, I don't understand why they gave out incriminating evidence.

Any insights?

I love the image of soiled undies. :)

Unfortunately, I'll be in the hospital for knee surgery on Thursday and won't get to watch CSPAN. I'll have my radio, though, and can listen to AAR. I only wish my local affiliate played Randi instead of Schultz.

30. Nah, it's just sometimes when the "truth" sets you free...
there's very little left if the majority of your life has been a lie.

Telling the truth about these absurdities doesn't make the tellers absurd, unless of course one listens to Rush. Then it's "backwards world".

There's a good reason not to let ourselves even think this is a political beating, because it's simple justice, not political brutality. These neo-punks just can't take having to pay for their own crimes because they keep up the scape goat game to save their own hides.

People going to court, having to tell the truth and have the truth be told about them shouldn't be pitied or reviled. They should just be dealt with like week old garbage. Take them out and let them sit together somewhere and rot away until all that is left turns into something useful again.

27. And I love this quote:
“Members of Congress now face a choice: whether they will waste time and provoke an unnecessary confrontation, or whether they will join us in working to do the people’s business,” Mr. Bush said.

Waste time and provoke an unnecessary confrontation? You mean, like impeaching Bill Clinton for lying about a blowjob?

And since when did any republican care about the "people's business" anyway?
