Nixon dancing during the campaign

I'm 58. I hated Nixon, but I remember during his campaign that he wanted to appear "hip" and during one of the TV campaign speeches he made an effort to court the young vote by exiting the stage and dancing "down with the proletariat" to some sort of rock music. Does anyone remember that, and does anyone have videotape of that? He was totally pandering and a dufus at dancing, but I'd like to see it again after all these years. We have an incredible history in this country.

1. I only remember him on Laugh-In.

He said, "Sock it to ME??". Of course back then ANY candidate on a show like that was sensational!! Considering how close that election (1968) was, it could have made the difference.

3. Ironically, that could have won the election for Humphrey!

Gary Owens was interviewed recently, and revealed that Humphrey was going to record a comeback line. They were going to play Nixon's line, then follow it up with Humphrey's "I plan to on election day" or something similar.

Humphrey loved the idea, and was going to stop in the Laugh-In studios after an appearance on "Meet The Press." However, after he told his party handlers what he was going to do, they called George Schlatter and said that they weren't going to let him because it was "beneath the dignity" of a Presidential campaign.

The rest is history.

2. LOL not Nixon but Nixon girls

Last night I watched K-19: The Widowmaker movie and one of the newsreels they were showing the Soviet Navy sailors was of the Nixon campaign females dancing.... short clip...

4. I think what you're referring to happened during the '72 convention

One night Sammy Davis Jr was the emcee of some sockhop for the Youth For The President (or whatever they were called) and Nixon visited that.
