You remember where Ford was before they introduced the Taurus?
NOTE: This is **NOT** a car thread. Ford is mentioned only metaphorically.

Back then Ford was deep in the weeds. Their market share was dropping and they had nothing exciting. They spent every dime they could beg, borrow, and steal to develop and market the Taurus. It was going to save the company or sink it. There was little middle ground for them.

The gamble paid off for them. The Taurus was a hit and in fact was the blueprint for a generation of American cars. Today, Ford is the only car company of the "Big Three" that was able to get by without any bailout money.

That's what we need in the "Stimulus Bill", it seems to me. Huge spending. There is no demand in the economy. Anything apart from jumps tarting the economy should be thought of as a byproduct. That's not to say would should spend with these byproducts in mind. Of course we should. But spending is what its all about right now.
