"...people who are not willing to accept a full-time job..." (Haley Barbour)
How many people do YOU know, who will not accept a fulltime job, and who prefers to collect unemployment checks instead?

3. Tax cuts? Tax cuts... if you don't have a job, you aren't paying taxes.
Biggest tax cut by far for most people. Alabama doesn't need tax cuts, they need an increase in pay standards.. that state has broke as a joke people...

5. Yeah, somehow it's lost on most of them that in order to get a tax cut at all,...
One has to have paid taxes,... or have an income on which they pay taxes.

This is not like a chicken/egg thing it's more like a cart horse thing.

6. Well, it would certainly depend on what full-time job they were
talking about. If they want me to take a minimum-wage job when I've been making a lot more than that, then I'd do it only if it didn't take away from my job search, and even then I'd sure have to think about it. Several relatives, in the past, took whatever job they could get after having good-paying jobs, and they were stigmatized by potential employers for doing so. Collecting unemployment certainly shouldn't be shameful, and looking for a decent job should BE your job when you are on unemployment. That's hard to do when you have to spend 40 hours a week at a McJob.

Also, remember that unemployment is for ppl like electricians, construction workers, etc., who, due to the nature of the work, have periods of unemployment of weeks or a few months. Frankly, I wouldn't bother to look for a McJob if I were one of those folks, either, unless I thought my unemployed period would last months.

7. you can get all the work you want
if you'll just work cheap enough. :eyes:

He doesn't get that people have had their belly full of cheap labor GOP plantation masters like him. Why tweety would even lend credibility to an asshole like him now is beyond me. Anything they have to say at this point lacks credibility and the quicker they are marginalized the better.

8. Yep it's the old time republican canard
rationalize the callous nature of your position by categorizing the poor as lazy and unwilling to work. Sadly, for every one example Barbour could come come up with of a poor person that does in fact game the system, there's a hundred hard working people who don't.

9. and most jobs these days (ones that usually are "available") are PART TIME
Companies DON'T WANT fulltimers.. fulltimers expect, and ask for perks..

Companies want several part timers, rather than a few full timers..part timers are HUNGRY, and will usually come in early, stay late, work shitty shifts..

14. Here's the math
If a person makes $50K per year at your job, that same person will make $25K per year on UC.

Republicans want that person to take a full time job for $24K per year with no regular hours, no benefits, and no guarantee that the person won't be axed again in six months.

People aren't willing to accept a full-time job if UC will provide a living wage but the job won't.

Incidentally, Haley Barbour is a grade-A asshole.

15. UC? Uncle Charley? Universal Celibacy?
If you don't know how to spell it, sound it out and use the spell check!
People can then know what you are talking about, instead of having to guess.
Unemployment Compensation.

26. I'm unwilling to take a F/T job but I don't collect unemployment either...
I also work as a freelancer (chasing down funding and financing for projects) in the film industry and write for income (cumulatively about 10 hours a week total). Those are my primary sources of income, my failing hunt for a supplemental P/T job with health benefits is failing...but forced to choose, I'd forgo insurance and the P/T job rather than work F/T because I can't afford the pay-cut.

So...I'm 1. I think I'm largely alone in this category though so who are these other "people" to whom Barbour refers. I also pay more in taxes than the average American because I have to pay both the employer and employee share of many taxes...I don't care about paying them, but it seriously sucks that I'm ineligible for the benefits of those taxes (Soc. Sec., unemployment during dry periods, other social safety net programs) because of GOP initiatives and assholes like Haley Barbour, Newt Gingrich and Grover Norquist.
