I love John Edwards but
he talked too much tonight. Jesus! He was the first to answer almost every question even if she would have been the better one to answer it. I wanted to hear more from her and I was disappointed.
The one answer that he gave that was interesting was that every candidate has a personal life that people have a right to consider when voting. I thought of Rudy and Newt and that crowd! Anyway, John talked too much...my two cents worth.

1. I think that might not have helped.
My fear with Edwards is that he'll be slandered as an overbearing asshole who made his wife help him run, even though she had cancer. Stepping in and speaking for her is not going to help. She's a strong woman; let her talk.

2. I thought it was a good interview on their part....Couric was a pain.
I thought for a man and woman who got hit in the gut this week, they did a good job.

I am sorry people here are that judging. This place today is full of judgments of others.

I say good for them. Couric is a pain.

8. Didn't Couric lose her spouse to an illness?
Just wondering what questions were coming from her own experience. Did she quit work?

20. Here husband died..when her children were very young
Yes, Katie did lose her husband to colon cancer..No, she continued working..in fact had an on air colonoscopy to draw attention to the need for early detection and did alot of good from doing that. However, her job wasn't quite as high profile as a presidential candidate..I am not a fan of her interviewing style but...she did know "from where she came" through experience..tonight..I thought it a good interview and John was a strong husband/presidential contender..It is time for this country to be humbled and his example of humility might just catch on.

17. I totally agree with your
take, mad. The Edwards were freakin' PERFECT and couric started out okay but then by the tenth time of "some people say".."and you're gonna die" I started to get the feeling that she was trying her damnest to bring them down. They were having none of it, though..they handled couric graciously and with aplomb.

Just like when Elizabeth made the call to tony snow.

4. What?
Ms Couric addressed most of the questions to him. What was he supposed to do? Did you listen at all?

6. I think he felt the need to stand up for her against Katie's badgering.
She kept asking the same question long after they had answered it.

23. Ah, no kidding!! All Couric tried to do was discourage them.
I wanted her to shut up! John and Elizabeth have already had a miserable week, and did not need that discouraging crap in their faces - they are trying to be courageous and go on meaningfully, and not go home and wait for more bad reports.

Couldn't CBS have gotten someone else to interview them? Jeeez!!!

7. If she's undergoing treatment like chemotherapy, she may
not be that strong, so I would say he's lifting that burden from her. IMHO.

9. I disagree.
Couric asked the him a lot of questions because he is the one people are judging, not her. He's the one running for president, not her. She asked her some questions too, and she answered those herself.
I thought they did a great job. I wasn't put off by Katie either. She asked the questions that are being bandied about in the press and elsewhere.

I was impressed by there poise and they had good answers to all of the questions. I am really sad for Elizabeth about her diagnosis, but she seems to be handling it very well. Things may change, they may not change
anytime soon.

11. Saw it. He's still 3rd place. (Unless Clark or Gore join the race.)
.. and then Edwards falls to 4th or 5th.

12. I actually saw the interview and didn't hear it
I was getting dressed from a shower and the sound on the bedroom TV was down. They both look so energetic and vital, and Elizabeth is just plain gorgeous. She has a serenity about her that actually inspires me to look twice at her husband. Any man who can make a woman that happy has already climbed the first few rungs of my ladder.

It's funny to me that Edwards looks (to me) a lot like SCOTUS Justice Roberts but without the rather disturbing eyes.

13. The only problem I have with John Edwards is that he's
9 days older than me and looks 15 years younger.

I think the interview was edited badly - according to an article I read in the paper this morning, Elizabeth "did most the talking" during the interview - I'm guessing whoever wrote that may have seen an unedited version.

I also think Couric was her usual partisan self and could she have been any more negative about Elizabeth's prognosis?

"negative about Elizbeth's prognosis" if they would have given her more TIME! GEEZE!

22. I think she asked the right questions
Questions that many ordinary Americans probably have. I think both John and Elizabth did an awesome job.

15. I didn't notice that at all.
Elizabeth said what she had to say and John said what he felt like..the only thing that was Annoying was couric with her million ways to say "you're gonna die".

16. Couric's husband died of colin cancer.
In answer to some of the above...I am not judging John Edwards. Barring something untoward, I will vote for him. I thought he talked too much, that's all. He has decided to run for President so he will be under the spotlight and subject to observations like mine. I think that if we can call various republicans any number of nasty names, I can, observe that JE talked too much tonight. Elizabeth is the one who is sick and I wanted to hear more from her. I did not feel that Couric was asking only him the questions, I don't know how you would tell that from either her questions or the way the camera was focused. After all, people, at least me, want to know that she is ok with this. Also. I thought Couric did a good, sensitive job with a very difficult interview.

24. We don't know how much of the interview was spliced, only that it was,
and the questions Couric asked trended strongly toward John and not Elizabeth.

Would you have him not answer the questions she asked him? Why not instead ask why CBS didn't run the entire interview, or demand of an editor why the questions seemed skewed to one and not the other Edwards?

I thought overall the interview went pretty well, if a little abbreviated.
