1. Obama reminded him that the banks got us into this mess
Todd wouldn't know. He's filthy rich. He's clueless and disinterested about who the real culprits are.

12. Quite. It takes two to tango and there was a lot of pimping on the banks' side, like it or not.

I was so happy he corrected that.

2. We should be easy on him.
They haven't had to really research anything for the last 8 years. They just took the WH's talking points and ran with them. His utter confusion is understandable. :sarcasm:

7. Ummm...no. A financial market crisis caused by primarily poor banking practices did.
This is a rare downturn where the crash in economic activity can actually be directly linked to financial markets. I can't think of any other downturns in this country where that is true. The Great Depression does not even come close to fitting that mold.

10. Oh, but did you notice how Obama blew him off
He instantly said, he didn't agree with his premise, then went on his merry way talking about how the bank gambled on shaky assets?

14. A consumer ECONOMY got us into this mess
Offshore all the good-paying, solid jobs, and let the People eat credit cards -- administered by Wall St. swindlers.

then he went and proved my point beyond my wildest dreams.

It was great that the President didn't let him get away with it.

24. "wealth effect"
People borrowed and spent based on artificially inflated net worths- inflated property values and inflated stock portfolio values. Much of that spending won't come back anytime soon. The economy should stabilize at a lower level of spending and output.

22. "I like people who tell me I'm not responsible for doing anything wrong.
I mean just because I racked up thousands of dollars in credit card debt, bought a gas guzzling SUV, and a house I can't afford, doesn't mean I had anything to do with my problems. After all, the bankers put a gun to my head and told me I had to do it."
