OK Lets get a couple things straight about the stimulus bill.
This is not some kind of Democratic wish list. This is not a "wanton and willful" Democratic spending spree. This is damage control from 30 years of conservative economic policies. It is not a Democratic deficit. This money and every dime we spend to get us out of this mess is a bill left tacked on the White House door by George W Bush and the Republican Party.

1. I agree whole-heartedly that the mess was caused by rethugs...however

Although for years dems have acted as enablers, so they do not escape the blame, either. It most certainly is someone's wishlist, albeit not exclusively the dems. But considering that there's not really much bottom-up funding in there, it's not much of a stimulus package, either. It will aid a few vertical markets, and those businesses already feeding from the beltway trough. It will not really stimulate much of anything, though, because it's all top down, which means the middle class -- the people in dire need of stimulus -- will get nothing but attitude and arrogance from the top enders dolling out the spoils.

I will be very happy if I'm wrong, but right now, that's what it looks like to me.

13. And with aid to the States reduced or cut
how will those 47 States that either have HUGE deficits or about to have them, and based budgets on getting some of that "pork," survive? Democrats share in the blame, but at least the Parties resolved their differences in time to go on their next much-needed vacation break.

4. However you define what's in it the Republicans that aren't voting for it
will/are calling it a Democratic spending spree and a wish list. The Democratic wish list was national health care and legalizing gay marriage not trying to prop up a crumbling economic system. We didn't "wish" for this.

Who's playing chess and who's playing checkers?

"The Democratic wish list was national health care and legalizing gay marriage"

I've never heard President Obama support either of those things.

14. I agree
Nicely summed up. This is how I have been explaining the situation to every shocked conservative I know. They don't like it, but so far not one of them has had anything close to a credible rebuttal. ;)
