EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A man who thought the federal government spies on people through television sets killed a fellow homeless man in southwestern Illinois in self-defense.

That's what James Batey's public defender says in a recent court filing he plans to argue when the 33-year-old man's Madison County murder trial gets under way next week in Edwardsville.

This is a common paranoia, similar to that something has been implanted in their brain (this is where tin-foil hats come in - as protection) or something's being broadcast to them, or whatever.

I knew someone who believed the FBI and CIA were communicating to him through jet contrails. Before he made any decision, he had to look to the sky and evaluate the contrails for a signal.

If he's not faking it, it should be easy to prove he's not in his right mind.
