Edited on Wed Feb-11-09 04:40 PM by TWiley
The homeowner scored a big one.

Google this link: video/crime/2009/02/11/marino.home.invasion.KVOA

on edit: I think this is a direct link http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/crime/2009/02/11/marino.home.invasion.KVOA.html

2. Then go to CNN.Com, click on the video link at the top right
And, when you get to the video page, scroll down and look for a still that shows the hood of a blue car in a driveway. I tried everything I know of to get a direct link that I know of. The google search worked for me so I posted it.

Sorry you are having trouble, the video is worth watching if you can find it on the cnn website. Maybe you have to press play or something.

Try this link: http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/crime/2009/02/11/marino.home.invasion.KVOA.html

4. Wow!!!
That surveillance system really paid off. One of the "invaders" had what looked like an AR-15. Nice neighborhood too.

7. Yep
I'm reminded of the Rodney King Riots when the shop owners were on their roofs with SKSs and AR-15s defending themselves.

It looks like the surveillance system was the advantage here. My first inclination was that these invaders knew their target because of the way they were going in. But on second thought I discounted that because the apparently didn't know about the surveillance system (or maybe they just discounted it).

I installed a real nice surveillance system at my parents house a couple years back. Of course I did it not for security at the time but for peace of mind for my mother. My father is in ill health and mother wanted to be able to keep an eye on him all over their property. Now, after seeing this, I'm thinking about putting something in at my own home.

8. Maybe they were after the gun or guns inside?
They found the car, so maybe there will be more info as the story unfolds

11. Entirely possible. Guns are big business in the black market.
Yeah, I'm sure the police will get at least one of them since they found the car. I'm very curious on how it is they picked this particular house.

BTW - Did you notice the two "perps" running down the sidewalk? I LOLed at that.

25. It also showed him shooting as they ran away. Self defense? hardly.

More like the racist asshole in Texas who murdered the two immigrants.

26. They started running after he started shooting
Four people with guns, including at least one assault rifle, try to rush a house, and you think the guy's an asshole for firing on them?

27. Didn't see the home owner shooting at the guys running down the sidewalk.
But you can see bullets striking the windshield of the guy getting into the car as the two are running down the sidewalk. That IS still under the legal definition of self defense. The man in the car still presented a viable threat to the home owner. The home owner was still covered under self defense until the car had it's tail lights to the home owner.

You may not agree on a philosophical standpoint but that is the way it is.

9. They may have been thinking no one would be home.
Most burglaries (I know - burglary and home invasion are very different but the principle is the same) are done in daylight hours because homes are often empty at that time.

14. Good point, I did not even consider that.
The story was called a home invasion, they did not really say what the motive was that I can remember. I just assumed it was robbery. Maybe the motive really was murder.
