Kalamazoo, MI man beaten unconscious by 40-50 teens
KALAMAZOO -- Kalamazoo police say about 40 to 50 young males attacked a 50-year-old man riding a bicycle and beat him unconscious.

Police say the attack happened about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Witnesses say the attackers appeared to be teenagers.

The witnesses tell investigators some of the group knocked the man off his bike and began beating him. Police say he was hit in the head with a bottle and then kicked and punched as he lay in the street

His bike was stolen but later recovered.

Police said Tuesday night they didn't yet have any suspects. They said the victim remained unconscious at Bronson Hospital.

There isn't anything else to the article at this time. Is the unrest/anger/whatever that bad in our country right now? How do you even GET 40-50 teens on board for something like this?

I thought "K-Zoo? Home of WMU K-Zoo?" The article came from the Detroit Free Press.

3. I wonder if he was homeless, perhaps...There is a lot of attacking the homeless
As for the swarm of young males, it's called a GANG. Even if they are not formally affiliated with one, for roving packs of young men to go around and act violently, they are looking for reasons to act out their rage on others and it is frightening. And no, I don't attribute it to the economy. My very liberal/accepting hometown had a recent spate of these types of attacks. They are called 'gooning' and it's not even necessarily related to robbery. These young people would rove in packs (they were from the adjacent city--a high crime area) and would just walk into this suburb and go off on random people. Scary...

6. had someone beaten to death here in Maine last year
in the midcoast area. We had an alcoholic man who used to spend all day riding his bike up here, even in the coldest and worst weather. He'd pick up all the bottles and cans...kept the roads clean. I'd see him go by my house pretty much every day. Also saw him several villages away.

He never bothered anybody, just rode or walked his bike around, filling 2 buckets on the side with bottles. My neighbor told me he used to stop and help himself to some of my raspberries on his way by...that was ok with me. I have more than enough.

Anyway, last spring I suddenly noticed I hadn't seen him for a couple weeks. Turns out a gang of kids pulled him off his bike and beat him up. He died later in the hospital.

Shocking. Just shocking. And frightening. This is what happens when you're over 50 in our society. Nobody will hire you and kids beat you to death.

9. No suspects yet?
Maybe witnesses are afraid to talk.
