I'm Scheduling Job Applicants for Interviews with our Company, and I Feel Like Santa Claus
The folks I'm calling in for interviews are so excited at the opportunity to interview for a job - like they just received a gift from Santa I can hear the desire in their voices. We've had over 100 applicants in less than a week - over 25 came in within 2 hours of initially posting our job notice.

I haven't conducted a job recruitment and/or interviewed applicants for a job opening in a long while, so maybe this is parr for the course and I've just forgotten. Somehow, though, I feel I have really made some of these people's day just by calling them to let them know they look qualified on paper, and they might have a chance at a job with decent pay. Now, as the process continues, it will be interesting to see how many maintain their enthusiasm, but these folks I'm talking to today are hungry for work.

1. I don't have any idea the work you do -
Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 04:47 PM by Avalux
but as someone who has been laid off for three weeks now with very few leads (after working white collar the past 20), I can understand their delight. It's rough out there right now. Good Luck - hope you find good people. :hi:

4. We've had some great applicants
so many who have been laid off due to downsizing, based on the discussions I'm having.

I hope you find some good leads, Avalux, and that it leads to a good job for you. Good luck to you. :hi:

6. Downsizing - awful word.
That's what happened to me, just a couple of weeks AFTER the CEO assured us no one would be let go. I'm trying to not be bitter about it.

Thanks for the well wishes! :hi:

5. No, just been tasked with interviewing folks for our front desk position while boss is out of town
I had considered doing some census work myself, as a side job. But, seeing how we're down one person in the office, my hours have increased and, well, I can't look a gift horse in the mouth, or whatever/however that saying goes (if it even applies, lol).

3. I worked for an employment agency for a while
Placing people in jobs, temporary and permanent. People would be beside themselves with joy when I would call them up. I totally understand. I felt like Santa Claus in that job too. It was very satisfying.

8. Are you the one who also gets to play Scrooge
and call the people that won't be hired?

Let us know how that experience goes for you as well.

9. I'm dreading that part!
Santa one day, Scrooge the next. Yes, I will not look forward to being the bearer of the bad news - especially after having learned about some of these people's situations.
