A Paris appeals court has overturned the convictions on terrorism-related charges in France of five former inmates of the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay.
The five men were convicted in 2007 of "criminal association with a terrorist enterprise" after returning to France from Guantanamo,
They were handed three- and four-year suspended sentences and were each sentenced to one year in prison. But because they had served time ahead of their trial, they did not return to prison following the sentencing.
During their 2007 Paris trial, the five acknowledged having spent time in military training camps in Afghanistan. But they said they had never put their combat skills to use.
The appeals court delivered its decision on Tuesday.
