President Obama shows he's game by kicking back with a beer and some basketball
28th February 2009

THE U.S. president headed to his local stadium in Washington last night to watch a game of his beloved basketball.

The leader of the free world joined his Chicago-based friend Martin Nesbitt to watch the Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls at the Verizon Centre.

The two men sat courtside and with Mr Obama dressed down in a black jacket and dark sweater he looked like any other fan enjoying a game - apart from the swarm of photographers at his feet and the scores of people who wanted to say hello and shake his hand.

And, like any other man enjoying the game on a Friday night, he took some time out to sup on a beer.

And it must have been a welcome drink after the week that he has had.

And if that wasn't enough - the Wizards beat the Bulls 113-90.

1. That little kid was very funny and so cute....
He was quickly interviewed on ESPN, and he was so excited that he was sitting next to the President.

This Obama guy?
He's cool personified.

19. He stutters?...I'll be damned if I ever noticed it...Does saying "uh..and "ah"
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 03:47 PM by whathehell
one in awhile qualify as stuttering?

My understanding is that many, if not most people do that at times when speaking publicly..In fact, it seems a point was made of it recently when a newspaper published an interview with Caroline Kennedy using her "uh and ah"s.

What the newscasters said was that the paper seemed to be "picking" on CK because public personalities do that frequently and the papers rarely, if ever, publish them so they seemed to be making an exception for CK.

24. an occasional "ah, and uhhhh" is ok....its when there are frequent pauses with uhhhhs and ahhhs that
Edited on Sat Feb-28-09 07:41 PM by opihimoimoi
in my book is very close to stuttering...at least a form of it.

Please look up old speeches and compare with what he does now....He is evolving into a Master Orator....Perhaps why the Pubs hates his ass so much....unable to match him.......

If it was a TRUE Debate...as in the ole days....none on the Pub Bench would be able to debate with success againct Obama....

6. You know, all of this says "Man of the People" WAY more than cutting brush while wearing
a cowboy hat. Most people I know, Texans included, have said, cutting brush like that in the middle of the day in 100-degree F + heat is just plain stupid.

I love having a President who doesn't have to fake being a regular guy.

23. That is, when he wasn't drinking with the twins or
His mammy, Barbara George Washington Bush.

Also, y'all need to stop saying that Shrub was a dry drunk; you need to with that gut reaction you trust and admit that he was a constantly inebriated drunk.

10. The B game and Obama quaffing
a beer just like folks was the watercooler talk at work this morning..if we had a watercooler.:fistbump:

Oh that, and appointing Kathleen Merrigan for the 2nd Post in the USDA under Vilsack.

<snip>

"Pres. Obama has tapped Kathleen Merrigan, an academic and former congressional aide who helped write federal organic food-labeling rules, to be deputy agriculture secretary. The White House announced the pick yesterday, drawing cheers from food-safety advocates, who have pushed for more stringent labeling regs.

"Merrigan will bring an excellent perspective to a number of troublesome labeling issues now before the agency," Jean Halloran, Consumers Union's director of food policy initiatives, said in a statement. Among the matters that need to be addressed, she said: loopholes in the current "grass fed" standard, lack of uniformity in meat marketing claims, defining "raised without antibiotics" label claims, and weaknesses in the current definition of "naturally raised."

15. I have not yet fully adjusted from the disconnect that Bush (Cheney) created to
the connect that Obama creates.

The disconnect was re-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-lly bad. Like, how's this, peons--an obscene Devil for President? He-he.

And the connect that Obama creates is so over-the-top the other way, not toward the angelic, but toward an different paradigm altogether--a human being, who enjoys the things that most other human beings enjoy--a good game, a good book, a good idea, other people. Convincingly, like he really is a human being, and not some demonic, scary being putting on the costume of a human being. (Actually, many politicians strike me this way, including some Democrats, but Bush (Cheney) took it to mind-boggling extremes.)

This wild ride we're having--of our self-image as a nation--has made me think about who a president is, what this image means to us all--even to leftie, skeptic, objectivity-loving, passionate antiwar election reformers like me--and what presidential imagery means to our democracy.

I have not settled on any firm thoughts about it yet--except my abiding thought that the Atomic Bomb changed everything, and turned the president into an all-powerful world emperor, with the means to destroy all life on earth.

That is a problem. Believe me. It is something we need to deal with, or at least think about.

And there is that aspect, even to Obama. He's not a president. He's a king. Wherever he walks is sacred ground. He may be a good king. And thank the stars that he is. But he is nevertheless not like us any more, no matter how many basketball games he has fun at, or books he reads (or writes). (Hey, that it is a great boon we are going to get, eventually, from Obama--an impeccably written, riveting, honest, brilliant post-presidential autobiography, written by the man himself, when he becomes human again!)

I've begun to understand how the subjects in a monarchy feel, because I've realized that I am one. And also, I know that this was not what Jefferson and Madison had in mind.

As far as America's self-image goes, he is IT. He is the best! --after our having suffered the worst, so bad that we could hardly get up in the morning without feeling ill and dread. And here is this glittering fellow, who reads and writes books, and loves basketball, and combines Kansas and Africa, and whose smile lights up the world.

Great photos! Thank you for posting them!

the only one in charge of fixing this Nation from Compounded Challenges...some left over from the GOPer side of things...and others relating to global concerns....nevertheless...the challenge is HUGH

By being Obtuse, Obstinate, and Obstructionists...the NOPers are being guilty of nullifying Obamas work/efforts..
In this time of National Upheaval...the GOPers do themselves no credit....they are looked upon as what they project

ASSHOLES and POOR LOSERS...

22. The difference between Obama and Bush
Obama smiles with his whole face. He looks like he's having fun. Bush smiled with his mean little mouth -- but never with his eyes or any other part of his face. Even when he was smiling, you could see the veiled contempt for everyone else -- even his dedicated ass-kissers. Bush had no friends -- only people he could use, and he hated them.
