White Nationalist-Linked ‘Right-Wing Youth’ Group At CPAC
A well-funded new organization whose stated purpose is to launch a “right-wing youth movement” will make a splashy debut tonight at the Conservative Political Action Conference, or CPAC <...>

According to CPAC materials, the group, Youth for Western Civilization, is one of the official co-sponsors, or major donors, of this year’s conference. <...>

In the past, CPAC organizers have shielded the reputation of their mainstream conservative enterprise by forbidding racist organizations like the Council of Conservative Citizens from participating. They may want to take a closer look at Youth for Western Civilization.

One of the group’s founders, <1> Marcus Epstein, is a frequent contributor to the white nationalist hate website VDARE.com.

“Diversity can be good in moderation — if what is being brought in is desirable,” Epstein wrote in one VDARE.com essay. “Most Americans don’t mind a little ethnic food, some Asian math whizzes, or a few Mariachi dancers — as long as these trends do not overwhelm the dominant culture.”

Epstein is also the head of the Robert A. Taft Club, a Washington, D.C., group whose events regularly feature prominent academic racists like Jared Taylor, the editor of the overtly white supremacist journal American Renaissance.

Well, I guess they are diverse.

Seems the GOP is becoming more inclusive after all - the good ol'boys and the good ol' white supremacists. Just a big tent....

4. "do not overwhelm the dominant culture.”
In 20 or so years, when the "dominant culture" represents less than half the population, this prick's head is going to explode.

5. Marcus EPSTEIN is championing
White supremacy? Hmmmmm...I'm making assumptions here but I doubt that people like Jared Taylor would have welcomed Mr Epstein's grandparents or great grandparents. A hundred years ago Mr Taylor would have railed against people named Epstein.

12. The only responsible answer to that is . . .
"In the morning? Aw baby, I don't respect you now."

Or is that just me?

10. Marcus Epstein? Hanging around white supremacists?
That dude is in for some serious disappointment with his pals at some point... they probably don't like him and his last name as much as he thinks.

16. NO! None of this white nationalist bullshit.
It's fascism and we should be extremely, and I MEAN EXTREMELY, worried about these people.

What they say on the website is bad enough, what they're thinking in their heads is probably 10x worse.

17. CPAC Has Turned Into A Literal Freak Show
Watching TDS last night, it was like Jon had too much material to laugh at. The parody that was called CPAC has become a national joke as people tuned in not to see what new ideas were going on, but what goofy shit would come out of the speakers. Its resembled open mike night at a bikers bar.

The real charade was the attendence. The GOOP bussed in thousands of kids. Call it spring break for losers...to ensure there were crowds. My bets free beer for those under 21 was easily had. From what I've read over 50% of those attending were 18-24...many used as fodder to fill the main rooms so when cameras panned around it didn't look that empty.

I had to laugh as I've been at YKos...and the contrasts of who were there, the topics discussed and the overall outlook were such a contrast. CPAC now lives in a revised past of Raygunism that never was. It's pretending it had created a better world that belies all the failures we now have to endure...and a revisionist wing that is working overtime to deny any responsibility and destroying their credibility (or what remains of it).

There's a major leadership void in the GOOP and this all but is begging for the extremists to exploit it. There's been a rise in hate group activity over the past year. The Southern Poverty Law Center had a report about this last week...and where's the best place for these new hate groups to fly under the radar? The repugnican party. It really isn't that far of a stretch...remember, this is the party that embraced David Duke.

Their "worldview" is a bust, their "economic policies" have been proven a total failure, so what else do the GOOPers have? The only thing that unites...hate and intolerance. Fertile ground for a lot of evil shit to happen.

Cheers...

18. The racists are crawling back by way of the anti-immigration movement
Edited on Tue Mar-03-09 10:30 AM by starroute
There's a very important Southern Poverty Law Center article at http://www.splcenter.org/intel/intelreport/article.jsp?pid=180. It's from 2002, but its conclusions have only grown more relevant.

It makes it clear that the "respectable" anti-immigration movement itself was always far less grassroots than astroturf, funded by the usual far right foundations. But beyond that, starting around 1998 groups like FAIR increasingly entered into an alliance with outright white supremacists like Jared Taylor. And the white supremacists in turn are tied in with neo-Nazis.

I've noticed an upturn in activity by these anti-immigration groups since Obama was inaugurated -- for example, getting involved in arguments over the census. I suspect that a combination of demographics -- as Euro-Americans become a minority in many places -- the economic crisis, and the Obama presidency is going to cause all sorts of questionable types to crawl out of their holes and attempt to go mainstream. And as Rush leads the GOP further to the right, any number of really unsavory alliances are likely to emerge.

I hate to say it, but we may soon look back fondly on W as the voice of GOP sanity and moderation.

On edit: I've now had a look at that latest SPLC article KarmaTrain mentioned, and it notes the same factors I mentioned -- but adds that the racists are attempting to blame immigrants for the subprime mortgage crisis, which I hadn't known. We're going to see a lot of attempts like this to insert far-right propaganda into mainstream discourse, and we need to aware of where they're coming from.

20. This is the guy that sounds like Elmer Fudd that Cenk interviewed a short while back, isn't he?
And tried to make the argument that... Well, I'm not sure what argument he was trying to make. Either that there is no racism, or that it's all black people's fault if there is.
