Someone who is conservative but isn't running for office can say whatever he likes and get away with it. In fact, I'll submit the whole "VEHEMENTLY DISAGREE with RUSH" could well be the path to greater prominence for Joe and for politicians in the wilderness like Newt.

Obama is trying to drive a wedge between the right wing whackos (yes, a nice repurposed Rush-ism) and the moderate NORMAL people of GOP so he can finally give cover to more of the GOP to support his ambitious agenda.

Now all that needs to happen is for us to see some rather sane looking individuals of the Republican party take a leadership role and make enough sense to pull the people of GOP away from Rush types and over to the center.

I think it will work.

He wrote a book calling out his party (on fiscal stuff at least). I don't really think he cares if he pisses Limbaugh or not. I'm actually thinking he hopes Limbaugh does get mad and Morning Joe can get some ratings from it...
