Where are all of the stupid people coming from? (this means YOU, media).
I just perused a bit of news, read some threads on DU - and I just sit kind of awestruck with wonderment. From the reporting of Obama's Stimulus plan and Budget to the 250K tax bracket impact understanding to RUSHGOPgate -

is it just me, or are the major pretty (and not so pretty) talking heads populating pretty much all news save Keith and Rachel and a few other exceptions just as dumb as a rock?

I expect the easily led public to have some problems grasping the complexity of what is going on, but those who are getting (well)paid to inform the public - they are either intellectual dead-enders, or utter tools of the right trying to protect their fat wallets!

1. Part of the problem is the salaries those people are being paid
They have absolutely no concept of the lives being led by those of us who don't get made up and coiffed to read the news on air every evening. They have no stake in the way we live, or so they think.

Add to that the fact that they're children of the suburbs who went to college and started at the top instead of fighting their way up from being stringers and you start to realize where they're coming from.

They're not dumb, they're just largely ignorant and totally disconnected.

2. It seems they're only qualification is "do they look good in their underwear?"
Any other qualification(s), if any, is strictly secondary...

3. Dimwit Contessa Brewer and her completly silly.....
blond co-hostess were freaking out over the stock market. "the market is plummeting because companies are affraid they are going to be taxed to DEATH!"

That's right Contessa, companies would rather go out of business than make money and pay taxes on it. I know all of the wealthy people I know would rather be broke like me so their tax rates will go down.

7. This is one silly woman...
this is the problem the people who think that they are speaking for all americans when they have no idea about what has been going on and it has been going on long before 2008..

4. Today's professional
news readers are paid employees of the media companies which in turn are owned by or subisidiaries of major corporations. They are there and paid to put over the corporate message, not to think or actually have a clue about the news.

5. It's caused by the Kool-Aid they've been drinking.
And one of the few paying jobs they can find is drinking it. Come to think of it, I wonder how much Bail-out money is reprogrammed into paying them to be stupid.

8. No, I've noticed it for years
We canned all but basic cable a few years ago, so it just when I am on business and can't resist watching a glimpse from the hotel room, or what I read about here, that it drives me over the edge.

9. yeah, I occasionally watch a news program on youtube
and i am always reminded of why I no longer have a TV.
I had a friend , in the lead up to the Iraq occupation, and she did a stint on msnbc about her anti war stance and her sons involvement as a soldier. she called me and told me when she arrived at the msnbc studios, she was STUNNED at how totally clueless the talking heads are..I mean, spoiled trust fund kids whose mums and daddums sent them to journalism school and they are dumb as a box of rocks. I thought so.
hugs
