7. I love Molly Ivins' comments on Pat
she said about his convention speech in 1992...

"Many people did not care for Pat Buchanan's speech; it probably sounded better in the original German.

-from: Notes from Another Country, in Nothin' But Good Times Ahead

damn, Molly, we miss your wit.

14. 'cause...
he was apparently channeling Uncle Adolph during the speech... I heard parts of it at the time, and Molly was right. It was a frothing, whacko piece of classic Buchanan drivel. And indeed, it probably worked better in the original German.

(PS. I have a degree minor in German and have German ancestors on both sides of my family.)

17. Al Franken said right after that speech:
"they just gave the election to the democrats."

it was true....buchanan's rant about culture wars and all kinds of bullshit scare voters straight into the arms of the dems.

19. His speech was jaw-dropping. I still remember watching it,
and Molly's assesment was far from hyperbole.

There are times that I forget that he ever gave the speech, but after seeing what it helped to usher in I think I'll always keep it in mind from now on.

6. "You played football Joe - so did I"
So said pukecannon to Scarborough, explaining how it was a big sucker play on the Dems by bush. The looks on the faces of the other panel members were priceless. They didn't believe that football bullshit anymore than the rest of us did. Pat was screeching at the end.

9. If they REALLY played football, they would have mentioned
a trap play or a screen pass or a counter play. I use to love it when we ran a trap play. I got to knock guys that outweighed me flat on their ass.

12. Poor Mr. Buchanan.
He really has a mental block when it comes to republican presidents who, in the middle of a scandal, are engaged in a conflict with congress. He did have a rather disturbing experience while serving his hero, Richard Nixon.

of his beloved nutty right-wing party.

Also, the old dude isn't really in the Washington big-money loop, is he?
