My daughter's baby doll is trying to posess me, and I am wearing tin foil and a magic tie

She has an 'Amazing Amanda Doll' which for some reason now scares her. She had a dream about it killing the other dolls, and it does move and talk to her based on her voice.

To overcome the fears we have we are playing with it. I am wearing a tie my daughter printed out, and a bracelet, and a piece of foil from candy. All taped to my body so that she can not take over my mind and make me do bad things.

Funny all that. How we work together to face fears. Daddy is here helping her as best I can, making a game of it all.

And then I sit here as she winds down for the night, thinking about those kids in Iraq. And the kids of those in poverty here. The sick kids without enough money for care, or without enough food to eat tomorrow.

It is not guilt I am feeling - but anger.

Yeah - I am one guy and can do something for others with my limited time. But I want more done. So I turn to the people, our government, and I and others ask for help and compassion.

And instead we get wars. Iraq. Afghanistan. War on Drugs. War on drinking and driving. War on smoking. And it goes on.

A war on poverty and a war on war? Nope.

My mom once got a single doll on Christmas. Was after her dad died and they were in poverty for some time. Things got better later, but back in the 30's a lot of folks did not have much. Mom remembered that doll until she died at 70 yrs old. She remembered the good someone did for her, and she cherished it her whole life.

Today - many kids will remember the hell they are going through, not just because the times are bad but because the response is even worse. The lack of caring by those in power.

I do try hard for my daughter, not always as best I can, but I do put her and her needs first. If there is a food we both like and only one serving is left in the fridge - she gets it. I buy for myself last, and always manage to get her a little something when we are out, even if it is from the dollar store.

Then I see the repugs in power. And how our government is constantly putting itself first. Above the needs of it's 'children'. How it is destroying the lives of other children half a world away - rushing into their homes with guns and carting off their dads, blowing them up with bombs, etc.

This is not the America I had envisioned growing up. It is not the one I wanted for my little girl.

I am deeply thankful to you all who have fought the good fight, and burnt the midnight oil for this country.

You may be key board patriots, or phone patriots, or marching here or there patriots, etc. But Patriots you are.

And this time, England is not our problem. It is here at home.

We the people are why there is a government. It is there to serve our needs, not the other way around. It is by the people, of the people, and for the people.

And as I get my daughter ready for bed after posting this I will remember too that I am here for her. I helped to create her. And my job as her dad is to be there for her first and me second. I may be the 'man of the house' or the daddy - but all that means to me is that my job is to do my best for the needs of those I love and support. Not to make them do their best for my needs.

Damned government is becoming like spousal abuse and neglect. And I would not want my daughter to grow up and 'marry' a spouse that acted anything like our government does towards it's people.

I will sleep well tonight - because I know I am not alone in the fight - and that many fine people, some here on DU and others elsewhere, are not sitting idly by and letting them get away with it.

Dont try to burn it, tear its head off or circular saw it. JUST RUN.

My Grandmother got an orange once for Christmas. What is this? Have you tried turning to yourself? Supporting your community and local missionaries? Are you a ward of the state? That's wonderful about the orange and your dad and all. But, rather than being bitterly attached to the suffering of the past, we are trying to create a more fair and just world for our children in the present and future. Again, welcome aboard.

For your sickness caused by visiting DU, I'd like to suggest deep breathing. Your mind will be running non-stop, filled with anger and disbelief, but hold on to your breath. The feelings you experience can be likened to eating raw potatoes if you get stuck with your intitial impulses. But, if you stay with your breath and let your thoughts dissolve you can cook those potatoes and they are delicious!

Finally, for what it's worth, I'd like to encourage you to do a little research on the current status of freedom in America versus other nations. You just might learn something else tonight. Wouldn't that be special?

I like debate and may learn something and share something along the way and indeed that is special. That , I believe is the point! Interesting potato scenario - Disagreement with some is beyond our control and is in God's hands.
Research Which other nations? Iran, Costa Rica? Cuba? Germany?, the UAE?, Italy?, etc.? Central America - me' encanta. May one encourage you to experience the freedoms in a political Islamic country - wouldn't that be special?

I'm not saying that we're not blessed to live in the United States compared to many other places in the world but if we continue going in the direction we are going in, we may well live in a totalitarian state by the time the OP's daughter grows up.

'Most free country in the world' what sort of crack you smoking? Free? Hell I can't smoke where I want, I have to wear a seatbelt, soon they will be telling me what to eat, and bush and friends are tapping our phones and emails.

I don't need to sit around comparing my country to others, I compare it to the ideals it was founded on - and I find it lacking terribly.

It's the one about an Englishman who returns to London after spending time in India and discovers that his niece has received an antique doll in the mail. The doll looks absolutely demonic but the little girl refuses to part with it. After it tears the other dolls to shreds, it comes after the Englishman in the night, avenging a Hindu for something the Englishman did while in India. That episode shattered my cousin, who was then in his teens. He got rid of every knick-knack, statue, and figurine in his mother's house. I also thought it was one of the scariest things I've ever seen on television, next to maybe the "Hungry Glass" episode of the old horror anthology series, Thriller.

Where the ventriliquist dummy is alive. Actually there were 2 episodes that dealt with that idea. My brother had just gotten a Jerry Mahoney (does that date me?) toy dummy and it scared the crap out of both of us.

Susan's doll bears an eerie resemblance to George's mother, in episode 7-17,
'The Doll', of Seinfeld.

I bought 2 Furbees at a huge discount, probably for myself.

Brought them home, daughter started playing with them.

Furbees quickly learned to say "shut up" and "I'm bored".

They talked to each other, and as long as together in a lighted
room would NOT shut up.

It scared my daughter, creeped her out, and finally she
traded them to the neighbor kid for a Mari game for Nintendo.

She doesn't have my vote :evilgrin:
