Looks like Gupta pulling out for Surgan General

Sorry for the souce of the link, they were the only one I saw with it. Friend of mine texted the news to me last night.

Despite the initial fanfare, Sanjay Gupta looks to be out of the running for the post of surgeon general, according to the director of the group representing Gupta's would-be health team.

Jerry Farrell, who heads the Commissioned Officers Association, told FOXNews.com Thursday that CNN's chief medical correspondent is known to have taken himself out of consideration.

"The general consensus from everybody is Gupta is no longer in contention ... it's more he's withdrawing himself," Farrell said, citing conversations he's had with "well-placed" individuals.

1. Good.
Let's get someone who knows more about medicine than he does about air time.

5. Gupta isn't just a talking head and he's done a number of pieces on public health featuring places

and people who desperately NEEDED the attention he gave them.

It's one thing if DU'ers don't want Gupta for the job, it's another to lie about him or speak in absolute ignorance of his record.

8. He is either a liar or dreadfully misinformed as was revealed by
his dust up with Michael Moore over Sicko.

15. Gupta lied about every single criticism of "Sicko" he made..
The dust up was not exaggerated at all.

12. those pieces were written for him
Having done tv stories on specific public health issues doesn't prepare one to develop public health policy for the entire country. He may understand the issues he has been assigned to cover, but he needs to be able to develop strategies for educating Americans about these issues as well as teaching simple ways of prevention. He has to constantly look at whether his programs are cost effective.
