Ok... And Monica Goodling's Lawyer Was A Defense Attorney In Iran-Contra !!!
Now how do you think she got his number???

<snip>

John M. Dowd heads the firm's criminal litigation group. Mr. Dowd has prosecuted and defended significant criminal matters at trial and in parallel proceedings before Congress and regulatory agencies for more than 30 years. His practice focuses on the trial of complex civil and criminal cases.

Mr. Dowd is noted for his representation of a U.S. district judge, a former U.S. attorney and two U.S. senators. In addition, he represented a U.S. governor in a lengthy, high-profile criminal trial involving 23 counts charging false statements, wire fraud and attempted extortion.

Mr. Dowd has represented a U.S. senator before the Department of Justice and the Senate Ethics Committee; a U.S. Army colonel in the Iran Contra Hearings; a U.S. senator before the Senate Ethics Committee; and a U.S. governor in litigation with the Resolution Trust Corporation and in a fact-finding hearing before the House Subcommittee on General Oversight and Investigations, Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs, which inquired into the failure of the savings and loan industry. He has served as an arbitrator for the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris.

Dowd was also hired by Major League Baseball and was the man who got the evidence on Pete Rose for betting on baseball. He submitted a 225 page report on Rose along with 7 volumes of evidence, in 1989.

3. The Pete Rose thing still pisses me off.
How in the hell do you get in trouble for betting ON YOUR OWN FREAKING TEAM?

4. Uh.. because you are in a position to throw the game
if you decide to bet against yourself. I never agreed with the crap they threw at Rose, he was one of the greatest. But I can see their problem with what he did, a steep fine and suspension should have been enough. Rose got screwed, but you can't say he wasn't at fault.

10. But he bet that his team would WIN.
And win covering the spread. How the hell do you throw that? I know that a lot of people at the time thought that Rose hadn't gambled at all, but, even at the time, I recall the talk of him betting for his team to win.

Maybe he should have avoided all betting, period. Granted. At the very least, it was bad form. Still: according to all evidence, he bet on his team to WIN.

14. Rose
As manager of a team, it's Rose's job to win as many games as possible over a season.

If he bets on the Reds to win today, and not tomorrow, he can do things that can help today, but hurt tomorrow and the next day.

If the starting pitcher is pitching well, but has thrown too many pitches by inning 6, you would take him out, to not jeapardize his next start. But if you deem today's game more important than the next game because of a bet, then you leave him in too long, and subject him to possible injury, or tired arm that could effect the next game.

A manager with no bets involved, would do what's best overall for the team, even chancing a win tonight in order to not injure or tire out the pitcher.

9. He would determine who in his rotation of pitchers would be starting
and then he would make the bet. If it was his strongest pitcher.....

12. Yep.. kinda like insider trading
However keeping one of the all time great players out of the hall of fame, well that kinda sucks.

17. This is true...but we see in today's 2007 environment if there
is no accountability then the behaviour is encouraged....he knew it was wrong but he did it anyway....

8. We just need to impeach these people.
I'm tired of playing political games with snakes. And if any of the influences that have brought forth this horrible movement of theirs is in our party, I want them removed too. I've enough of this garbage.
