Anecdotal work story--Democrats and Republicans

A bunch of us were sitting around talking about the Stimulus Plan.
There weren't really any that were completely vocal about it, one way or the other. Kind of a wait and see thing. I didn't hear any rush-points and there wasn't really anyone that was wanting Obama to fail.
However, when the topic drifted to bailouts, everyone kind of feels the same way.
We are GOING to sink. Most involved in this discussion would rather hit bottom and THEN assess the damage. Use the money THEN to rebuild.
It seems useless to keep using billions to stay afloat on a leaky dinghy.:shrug:

1. Interesting.

I'm inclined to see this as group-think, which isn't especially useful.

What I would like to have asked the group is exactly why they think hitting bottom is best.

2. It's vengence, IMO.

People hate bankers and want to just see them all crash and burn, no matter what the real effect on the economy would be.

3. Could it be that, regardless of party/philosophical self identification, most people

realize, even if they can't articulate it, that the game is over? It was rigged, we got suckered and the parasites have made off with the loot and now it is time to let it go, assess the damage and begin to build the replacement?

Over the last few weeks, I've seen this kind of thing on sites and in articles of all persuasions. Can we be at one of those rare confluences where the left and the right (or however you wish to identify the polarized world views we hold) recognize common cause and can understand that it is now time to put that crap aside and get together to fix it, to reinvent America again?
