Charlie Chaplin's son dies at 82

Sydney Chaplin, the oldest surviving child of Hollywood legend Charlie Chaplin, has died aged 82.

Sydney Chaplin, who was also an actor, died at his home near Palm Springs from complications following a stroke, the Los Angeles Times said.

He was most successful as a stage actor and won a Tony award for the 1950s musical Bells Are Ringing.

He was one of 11 children fathered by Charlie Chaplin, who married four times.

Sydney Chaplin said he only truly got to know his father after being discharged from the army after World War II.

1. No mention of his mother, Lita Grey? Now that was a scandal!
She was a minor when CC impregnated her--not with Sydney, but with his older brother.

They got married in Mexico and the scandal kept under wraps, they divorced eventually and she got a massive settlement.

She wrote a tell-all book a few decades ago that was, well, less than flattering, to put it kindly.

3. Sydney played Nicky Arnstein when "Funny Girl" was on Broadway
He and Streisand did not get along. Supposedly he didn't mind a bit when Omar Shariff got the film role.
