Opposing Obama's tax hike on the rich, Baucus proposes taxing your health care benefits
http://openleft.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=12108

Remember when reading the following story that Max Baucus calls himself a Democrat, and that the Senate Democratic Caucus inexplicably keeps this man in the chairmanship of the committee overseeing tax and health care policy:

Sen. Max Baucus says he'd prefer funding health care reform by taxing people's health benefits rather than phasing out tax deductions on the richest Americans...President Obama is proposing to phase out income tax deductions for people making more than $250,000 a year. Baucus has told Obama he doesn't like that idea.

Baucus technically represents one of the poorest states in the nation - I say technically, because he's made clear he really represents K Street and the super-rich. This latest declaration makes that abundantly clear.

Baucus leans towards taxing health care benefits:

1. Actually, wouldn't that be an incentive for people to drop their health insurance
at work and sign on to a government plan if given the option? Also, wasn't that tax on health insurance benefits the essence of John McCain's healthcare solution?

7. no and yes
Your employer would still be subsidizing around 80% of the cost, so there would be no economic incentive to opt out and buy - entirely with your own money - the federal plan, if there even is one in Baucus's bullshit. And yes this sounds like McCain's crap.

3. I thought McCain was convincingly beaten
why are 'Democratic' legislators pushing McCain's healthcare 'plan'?

5. Baucus will always support only Business and the Elites.
He took the wrath of his people at home when he went GOP and
voted the Medicare Drug Bill. Hope the people at home find
it possible to simply find another Democrat and replace Baucus.

6. Ever notice how the 'working class' gets taxed on everything? We're taxed on
the interest we earn, the unemployment benefits we claim, the utilities we use, etc. But the super wealthy and businesses get more and more tax breaks.
