What Deeper Crimes Are Beneath The Watergate Break-In? So Often Intimated, Seldom Expounded Upon

As the scandalous, sticky situation in the Bush Administration, GOP and Federal Govt. begins to mirror Watergate, I've seem the idea suggested that there was much more to the Watergate break-in.

That Nixon's resignation/pardon served to enable the sweeping under the rug of much nefarious activities on the part of the GOP.

Does anyone have more substantial info on what might have been uncovered had investigations been allowed to continue?

Since some of the same characters are involved in current scandals unfolding in Washington, DC, perhaps there's a thread of continuity. Which would be important to know about. We can't let things just slide by this time and get left to fester decades down the road ever again.

Any reading suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the "plumbers" were also involved in breaking into the psychiatrist of Daniel Elsberg (sp), who was the person who broke the Pentagon Papers story, in order to steal confidential files on Elsberg.

Then there were the coverups...

I think the biggest thing was the employment of very shady characters to commit felonious acts "to protect" the reelection of the President and the very clear actions that the President believed himself (and thus those acting on his behalf) to be above the law.
