It was due to these "Democrats" that Reagan was able to get his defense spending increases, social program cuts, and voodoo economic policies through a Democratic Congress.

Not surprisingly, many of these conservative Southern Democrats later became Republicans.

Remember: Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond were both Democrats once, and left because of Civil Rights

These guys were Democrats up through the 1980s.
