Where are they getting the propaganda about the EFCA?
I just got an email, put out by where I work (yes, we do lobbying, but totally insignificant in the scheme of things) urging people to tell their congressmen to vote no on the EFCA.

The United States Senate recently introduced S. 560, the so-called Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) that would for all practical purposes eliminate the secret ballot and replace it with a ‘card check' process for determining whether a workforce is to be unionized. It would replace the private ballot with a biased process called ‘card check’ which allows a union to organize if a majority of workers simply sign a card. Under this system, the workers' votes are made public to the employer, the union organizers and co-workers, leaving employees open to unnecessary intimidation and coercion.
BOMA International needs your help in asking senators to vote ‘No’ on Cloture on S. 560. In order to invoke cloture and limit debate to lead to an up or down, majority rules vote on EFCA, the Senate needs 60 votes. With the Democrats currently holding a majority in the Senate, a vote FOR cloture, is ultimately a vote for EFCA itself.

I called up the person who put that out and said "You know that isn't true, don't you?" She told me that EFCA efficatively gets rid of the secret ballot and you have to sign something in front of a rep with EFCA. Argh. Anybody have anything for me to refute this with? I hate that we are sending out untrue things. We are a nonprofit btw.

1. They make it up out of whole cloth.
The text of the bill would be a good place to start if you need something to refute it with.

3. She told me what she thought it said, and I shut up
We are supposed to be non-partisan. I was just looking for a link to correct the error. I will have to search on it. Thanks.

I think it was Monday night. Maybe MSNBC has it archived? During the segment, Rachael stressed the current process would not be eliminated or replaced. The EFCA would give employees another option.

5. what it basically says is,
if 30% of the workforce desires to have a union, either a card check or secret ballot can be used to vote in or out. Just like it's always been.

Who the hell is BOMA International?
