"This Moment on Earth" - Teresa H. & John Kerry
An e-mail from John Kerry:

***********************

Hi ---,

Yesterday you taught a powerful lesson to the cynics who assume Americans don't care about the environment. Your response to the story of environmental heroes in our new book This Moment on Earth has been amazing -- and from the bottom of our hearts Teresa and I are incredibly grateful.

Thanks to you, the book is the #1 best selling non-fiction book and the #8 best selling book overall on Amazon!

This book shares the stories of the environmental heroes standing up to cynicism and inaction. Teresa and I wrote it not just because we share in the struggle to save our environment, but because this struggle is more about you than it is about us. If you want a look at the kind of people we're trying to honor and support (all the proceeds from the book are dedicated to environmental causes), check out the inspiring stories sent in by the JohnKerry.com community.

Please, read the book, share your thoughts about environmental heroes you know -- and spread the word. You're making a difference.

I'm getting ready to order some more goodies for myself on Amazon. This book will be among them.

5. Yes
JK gives a lot of props to Gore for forcing climate change into the public consciousness.

Also mentions of RFK Jr.

10. Gore and Kerry have often complimented each other on this issue
Gore in 2004 at the Democratic convention spoke of Kerry having the best environmental record of anyone in the Senate. Kerry in his speech on the environment called Gore a visionary and said the US would be leading on this had Gore been inaugurated as well as won the election.

9. Cool!
I ordered it from Amazon earlier, and look forward to reading it. Following a good example, I went ahead and ordered a second one for the library.

6. There is quite a bit about Riverkeepers,
with the note that it is now part of Waterkeepers and RFK Jr.'s involvement.

Gore wrote a nice blurb for the book and the Kerrys give him kudos in at least a couple of places.

12. I look forward
to reading the book. I am very impressed by the work of Gore, Kerry, and RFK Jr. What a team of environmental advocates!

I think that John Kerry has a strength and dignity as a member of the US Senate that puts him in a group of the the greatest political leaders in our nation's history.

13. Agreed!
In fact, back during the bloodbath that was the '04 primaries, I was a Deaniac and was really disappointed that Kerry won the nom at first - it wasn't so much that I disliked him, as that I didn't know that much about him, and I had my favorite, and my favorite lost. But once I started learning about Kerry's environmental record, I became a big fan. Also, it was Gore's addition to the 1992 ticket that made me vote for Clinton.

14. I've always thought
that as a group, the best senators were as fascinating as any politicians in our country's history. They are, obviously, different in influence that presidents, and there are a half-dozen presidents that I think very highly of. But there is something about the senate .... Kerry ranks with the bravest in any era. I am actually pleased he is focusing his talents there, rather than attempting another presidential run.

Interesting comment on Gore in '92. I thought he was more qualified than Clinton, and can remember the discussions that a group of us at work would have. After work, we did voter registration/education, and followed up by making sure people had transportation to the voting booths, etc. Most of our group was big on Bill Clinton. I always favored Gore. Still do.

15. You want the true confession?
In '92 I was torn between voting for Clinton (whom I also liked), and Ross Perot, who impressed me as a self-made man who took matters into his own hands, and conformity be damned. It was the addition of Gore that tipped the balance. (And of course Perot flaked out later, but by then I had already made up my mind.)
