Of course it's flamebait! It's ridiculous! I'm been trying to tell you guys that subjects like this (And Guns and Religion) don't belong in General Discussion, because they just piss everybody off and never solve anything! But today, in GD, we have posts about Guns and Religion. It's flamebait.

So maybe this is where those flamewars belong?

I've been a member of DU for three years and I look forward to coming here every morning. Lately, when I sign off, I just feel sad that we've allowed it to come to this. This place used to be special. We used to be united against the conservatives. Now we all act like enemies.

acting like an enemy? It seemed to me that thread was fairly civil ... and I'm NOT a gun owner.

And please don't think I'm getting on your case -- I'm not. We all need to be a little more tolerant of other people's views. We can't all agree on everything.

I think all right-thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that ordinary, decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired.

No one was being divisive on the gun poll...except you. ...and so your answer to all these "problems" you see and how much we act like enemies, is to post a notoriously divisive poll just out of spite. Wow....that's mellow and friendly of you.

...but the south is fine for people who like that sort of thing. I enjoy visiting down there, just wouldn't want to live there. (And south to me is the rest of the US). :)

I can't talk, my parents live in Saucier, and my in-laws live all the way up in Perkinston. They are estranged in-laws, though, so maybe they don't count. :rofl:

I can be in the quarter in about an hour. We do very little socializing in our neck of the woods. I'm redneckish in a sophisticated, liberally tainted way.

My joints don't like cold weather and the food down here is outstanding. Not knocking the North, but I'm quite content living down here. Most of the folks around here are way too conservative but I just leave them alone unless I want to aggravate them. They are incredibly trashy as well which I think is directly linked to ignorance.

How do you define trashy?

any highway in South Mississippi and you will see tons of human distributed debris. Just chuck it out the car, to hell with the serenity and beauty of the scenery. I think you have to be pretty damned ignorant to do that.

I ****LOVE**** being warm. And I loved my time in North Carolina. I expected to be surrounded by conservative red-necks, but I ended up in a nicely moderate town with lots of pockets of liberals.

I spent 15 years in the North. Mainly New England. And I felt as though I was at a forefront or vanguard of thought when I was there. I think a lot of ideas and innovations come out of the Boston area. It's a major think tank, and I'm not sure that the South has anything comparable.

So. Can't choose.

from Bar Harbor, Maine to Key West, Florida - East coasters!!!! What's your family name - where'd you go to school. Same old shit - different accents.

My wife is from Cambridge, Massachusetts (you should hear her accent when she goes back home) and grew up in Bangor, Maine; she considered anything south of Augusta "down south." :) I'm from North Carolina. We lived in Florida for a decade.

North and South are both nice, and they aren't so different as one might think. Except for the seacoast, Maine looks a lot like western NC. There are superficial cultural differences (ayuh, y'all), but I'd be at home in either.

West is also nice.

BTW, Boston Children's is awesome.

But enough about me! :)
