Eli Lilly and Co. today became the latest large Indiana employer to oppose a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Tony Murphy, Lilly's senior vice president for human resources, sent a letter to House Speaker B. Patrick Bauer, D-South Bend, and other legislators saying the amendment could hinder Lilly's ability to attract employees and also paint an image of Indiana as an intolerant state.

3. You can bet the farm it is profit based
It is very simple: institutionalized bigotry drives away competent workers, either because those workers are the target of the institutionalized bigotry or because those workers are fair minded people who refuse to move to a state with institutionalized bigotry. So the bottom line is, if such a ban is put into place, many current Eli-Lilly employees will quit and move away, and E-L will find it very difficult to recruit other people to fill the vacancies.

If such a ban were proposed in Washington, I would be very surprised if Microsoft did not come out just as vocally against, for these reasons.

2. Very nice to see a major U.S. corporation do something right like this.
Good for Eli Lilly.
