McCain Refuses To Condemn Ingraham’s Attacks On His Daughter
McCain Refuses To Condemn Ingraham’s Attacks On His Daughter

Last week, ThinkProgress reported that hate radio host Laura Ingraham responded to Meghan McCain’s criticism of right-wingers like Ann Coulter by calling her “plus-sized.” Meghan shot back, telling Ingraham, “stop talking about my body.” Yesterday, Meghan ripped Ingraham on The View, saying, “Kiss my fat ass!”

Today, in his “Twitterview” with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) shied away from condemning Ingraham’s gratuitous attacks on his daughter. Stephanopoulos asked McCain, “What do you think of Meghan’s feud with Coulter and Ingraham?” McCain first said, “I’m proud of my daughter and she has a right to her opinions.” When asked if he agrees with his daughter, McCain did not say, simply stating, “like any family we agree on some things and disagree on others”: ... http://thinkprogress.org/2009/03/17/mccain-twitter-ingraham/

As painful as it is, sometimes you just have to admit that Dad was a fascist pig.

First it was that bombing of civilians, now this.

2. We're talking about a man that groveled to Shrub after the vicious attacks
on his other daughter. (among other attacks)

No low is too low for McCain....his ambition means more.

3. John McCain just isn't that bright.
What possible motivation does he have in defending Laura Ingraham? She's a nobody. Or is she?

10. Seriously.
McCain doesn't need Ingraham for anything. Why not defend his daughter? What specifically did Meghan say that he disagrees with? Does he really think that Ann Coulter is good for the Republican Party? Considering that Ann was never much of a fan of McCain in the first place how hard would it be to take his daughter's side in all of this? Does he really think that Ingraham calling Meghan fat is okay?

Come on John. Show your mavericky side and defend your daughter.

Why don't you just say no to Laura Ingraham? You say no to everything else that's important.

She's the bottom feeder of that genre. So, what possible influence could she have?

He probably is not good at any kind of emotional stuff.
His marriage looks icy; I wouldn't be surprised at all to find that his relationship with his daughter is also very distant.

9. Why should he get involved in some caterwauling female-rethug fight?

It's at the level of grade school children.

I'm also amazed that people are suddenly drooling over some republican's daughter, just because she slammed Coulter.

14. I don't think it's drooling over Meghan
as much as it is giving attention to the sleaziness of Laura Ingraham. It's more exposure of the far right bullshit that passes for GOP intelligence these days.

Laura Ingraham is showing young people who don't walk lock-step with RW ideology just how unwelcome they are in the "Big Tent" party. The more Laura disses Meghan McCain, the more young people will come over to our side. And that is a good thing.

18. It sounds an awful lot like drooling to me...

"Kiss my fat ass" isn't exactly the most brilliant, classiest response I've ever heard, yet people go on and on about her intelligence and how articulate she is. Perhaps I'm isolated, but what great pronouncements has she made on the state of her party, or the country in general, other than to say Coulter is extremist? Big deal.

I disagree with your last paragraph. Her whole function seems to be to show younger people that not all rethugs admire Coulter. All that's meant to do is seduce people back to the dark side. Not bring them over to ours.

Rethugs in general, have never shied away from schoolyard antics. Look at Palin. They LOVE her and she engages in the same crap.

21. It's a lose-lose for
the Republicans. Meghan may be trying to appeal to the younger crowd, but how effective is it really when high profile shrews like Ingraham trash her? If anything, the whole episode shows how out of touch the GOP is with young people. If Meghan McCain didn't have such a heavy family connection to the GOP how long do you think she would really last as a Republican?

If the high profile Repug talking heads trash the former party's nominee's daughter, it sure doesn't put a welcoming face on the GOP.

Of course the base of the Republican Party eats it up and loves that crap, but by embracing the likes of Sarah! and Laura Ingraham they are alienating a lot more people. You can't win elections with just the base and you can't build a party by alienating everyone who doesn't share limited ideology of the base.

11. Maybe he should think about what Truman did to a reporter that slammed his daughter
This reporter or editor, I forget which, who was not a Truman political fan, panned Margaret Truman's singing in a newspaper article. Ole Harry got plenty pissed and wrote this guy a letter, the gist of which was if they ever met in person Harry would punch him in the nose.

While I have no understanding of why Meaghan McCain's "falling in love" with the 'puke party, at least Mr. Straight Talk Maverick could stand up for his kid against one of the party mouthpieces.

Way to stick up for your daughter asshat. 'Puke family values again. I guess to McInsane it's party first, family second. What a dipshit tool.

12. "Ingraham's gratuitous attacks"???
By golly, I can't let that go unchallenged! I can tell you this much: If I had attacked John Sidney McCain III's daughter, ain't nobody nowhere who would be around to complain about it or answer back in any way. A "gratuitous" attack, by its very nature is so devastating, so spot-on, and ultimately so righteous that even the targets of the attack have to admit that it is true.

I simply can not be seen as endorsing Laura Ingraham's pissy little tirade in any way. Her attack on Meghan McCain may have been bitchy, childish, puerile, stupid, infantile, or any admixture of adjectives you care to agglomerate. But "gratuitous"? NEVER!

Part of me had a minor, bipartisan fantasy that Obama & McCain would respond to this by releasing a joint statement saying people's wives and children are off limits and the attacks should be about policy, not personality, but nah.

wow

But as someone else said here, McCain did the same groveling when Bush attacked his adopted daughter. He even hired the same people to work for him.

19. She will be an 'independent'
Which means she will offer lip service to the ever more radical GOP while voting democratic when she is in the booth. She voted Kerry in 2004, so the metamorphasis has already begun.

20. John McCain is not what I would consider family man material
1. Dumped his first wife who waited for him while he was a POW while also experiencing physical pain from an accident.
2. Married his wealthy beauty queen second wife a month later.
3. Publicly called his wealthy beauty queen second wife a c*** in front of a reporter.
4. Hired the same SOB's that lied about him having an illigitimate black baby to South Carolina voters.
5. Was willing to literally suspend his presidential campaign in order to "fix" the economy, but after Cindy suffered a stroke, she recovered on her own in California. Am I the only one who thinks that is odd?

Just writing this is a wonderful reminder of how good I have it. I'm proud to be married to a man who's actions and words prove how much he loves and respects me and our daughter.

26. so very sad that anyone would have a father like this!

From your link:

It’s unclear why McCain wouldn’t directly admonish Ingraham, who has mocked his daughter’s voice, weight, and just yesterday, called Meghan a “useful idiot.” But in the past, McCain has courted the extreme right of the GOP, granting an interview to Ingraham as late as October 2008. Throughout the presidential election, McCain, long considered too liberal by the extreme right, frequently appeared on hate radio shows, and he has a history of defending the bigoted remarks of right wingers.
