and is an egotistical has been who THINKS he can do better than Good Hair. Chris Bell would have been an excellent Governor of Texas.

3. If he had stayed out of it last time, Perry would have lost.
Either to Bell or Strayhorn--either of whom would have been better. Perry had a 33% approval rating and won reelection because his opposition was so divided.

It's a publicity thing for him, and a giant ego stroke, and in the end he's just helping Perry. Maybe he'll catch some debillitating illness and stay out of it this time. Not the Dems are bothering to run anyone so far.

6. Pretty much. Austin is just declaring itself an island and watching the state
become Saudi Arabia.

Here's the likely "Democratic" nominee: John Thomas "Tom" Schieffer (born October 4, 1947) is the most recent United States Ambassador to Japan, and served as U.S. Ambassador to Australia from 2001 to 2005. Schieffer is a friend and former business partner of President George W. Bush. He is the younger brother of Bob Schieffer, a CBS News reporter and host of Face the Nation. As of March 2, 2009, he is forming an exploratory committee towards a possible run for the office of governor for the state of Texas as a Democrat.

----

There is a movement to draft Leticia Van de Putte, and I may jump on that wagon if nothing else develops. Actually, I might even if something else develops--she'd be worth supporting, and a friend of mine is strong behind her.

9. At least Willie would take care of the drug problem by legalizing.
I'd vote for him on that alone. Kinky should stay out of it. Although I have to admit I laughed at the "Kinky Friedman - Why the hell not?" bumper stickers. I'm going to need to move to Austin.

10. I hung out with Kinky from time to time in the 70's..
I'm not sure I would put him in charge of anything.

Of course, that was a long time ago. Perhaps he's changed. :P
