Why the AIG Bonus is a big deal...
Robert Reich nails this one:

"The President cannot afford to lose the public’s confidence that his administration is a careful steward of the public’s money. The public was willing to go along with a large stimulus package. But it won’t go along with a second stimulus, and certainly not another TARP. And until the public feels confident that its money isn’t being thrown down a rat hole, it may balk at other ambitious undertakings such as health care or education or the environment."

1. R.I.P. - things that would boost "public confidence"
1. REGULATIONS - at least begin by presenting an outline of what kind of regulations are being looked at and what they are hoped to accomplish

2. INVESTIGATIONS - DOJ, SEC and any other regulatory agency out there should be digging into this mess.

3. PROSECUTIONS - Follow up investigations with prosecutions. And not just frog-march a couple of token middle-people.
