Texas high school students forced to fight in cage matches
Excerpt:

The Dallas Morning News reports that documents they received from the Dallas Independent School District school board reveal that problem students at a local high school were sent to fight out disputes in a metal cage in the boys' locker room.

Frank McCammon, an investigator from the Office of Professional Responsibility discovered the cage matches during an investigation into grade changing for athletes at South Oak Cliff High School.

Though McCammon notified district officials, the district attorney's office didn't prosecute ostensibly because of 'statute of limitations' in the case.

The cage fights allegedly occurred between 2003 and 2005. Earlier this year, the high school was stripped of its 2005 state basketball title. I guess the statute of limitations on grade switching for athletes isn't the same as the statue for forcing students to fight in a metal cage while other students look on.

The students were given no protection as they fought with fists in the steel utility cage.

One parent, Angela Williamson, says her son was forced to "duke it out" in 2004. Williamson met with the coach to discuss the incident. The coach told her that, "This is how they settled disputes in his day." The coach is no longer working at the high school.
