FedEx Pissed about union bill in Congress - Threatens blackmail
Is FedEx (FDX) blackmailing Congress or simply playing hardball? Either way, the shipping company is not making things easy on lawmakers these days.

FedEx is steamed about a bill working its way through Congress, and is threatening to cancel billions of dollars in new plane orders from Boeing (BA) as a result, according to the Wall Street Journal.

(snip)

Upset by the threat of more unions, FedEx is fighting back by clamping down its pocketbook. It might cancel orders for up to 30 new cargo planes from Boeing if lawmakers pass the bill. That would have been a $7 bilion purchase.

2. If FedEx actually needed the planes, then they're only hurting themselves.

3. Fed Ex would buy from unionized European companies rather than unionized American companies?
If I'm not mistaken, Boeing manufacturing is unionized.

So why would FedEx punish them? And even if Boeing weren't unionized, why punsh them?

FedEx, the ultimate right-wing company.

11. Led my a man who was the consummate big-bucks Bush fundraiser. "Nuf said:
I wouldn't be surprised if Freddie boy were already blaming BHO for the likely multi-billion dollar diminution in his net worth and the tens of trillions of dollars loss visited upon our economy and we the people. :P

8. they just reported earnings way down
they are laying people off, cutting exec salaries. i would say this has more to do with lack of cash than any union deal.

7. Technically, that's bullying, not blackmail
blackmail means that they have something on Congress that they'll spill if they don't get their way.

Of course, it's very likely they do have something on Congress, in which case blackmail is the right word!

Either way, it's time we stand up to these anti-union cabals. I'm sick of it. The Boeing union workers have compromised and compromised and compromised.

FedEx also may have to buy American - don't they run a lot of mail for the USPS? Which, presumably, has some safeguards as far as using American-made products.

13. And FedEx has been getting their ass handed to them in court
because they are willfully breaking the law by classifying company employees as 'independent contractors'.

The liability they are exposed to in back-pay, unpaid taxes, unpaid unemployment compensation, and penalties could be in the billions.

FUCK FEDEX.
