2. I can hide any threads I don't want to see and ignore any poster I prefer not to read
The thought of you or anyone else making those decisions FOR me is just plain revolting.

There are other groups that LOVE censorship, but they are not particularly democratic.

Choice, it's a good thing.

7. Now see, I think what you read should be decided by me.
Me personally. I think I am the only one who should have access to the block feature.

12. You personally? Don't make me laugh
oops, too late

Nobody but the mods get to decide what I read here.

Oh, and by the way, is it OK to discuss the subject of the block feature outside of the official threads about discussing the block feature? I am having trouble keeping up with the nuances of all the rapid rule changes.

You say potato, I say spud. Let's call the whole thing off ;)

10. Nothing would cause that
The block function was the low point in DU history, IMO. Kudos to the brass for burying it.

This is what frustrates me: In 2003 it was obvious John Edwards was our best chance to evict an incumbent president. You need likability to oust an incumbent, not a war resume. Yet we could barely get any enthusiasm for Edwards at DU. There were Dean threads hogging every page, and the only time Edwards got a mention was when Clarkies were desperate to bash him.

11. Neither ...

I want a feature that allows me to block threads by keywords.

This is one of the more ridiculous things I've seen here, and I've seen a lot of ridiculous things.

A prescription for runaway abuse.:-(

21. They could, but who cares?
Those people are likely to have some other reason they'd never vote for Edwards, and are just hammering on this one because. There would likely be no reason to convince them otherwise.

14. There are allot of reasons, I wish they would bring back the Block
feature. Edwards threads would not be one of them, but I would like to see the block feature put back. I more than likely would not use it, but it would be nice to know it was there. :)

I wish the DU would have put the block feature up for a vote, so we would know where the MAJORITY of the DU stands on the block feature.

15. I just skip the threads. Let those who want to discuss it do so.
The 'block' would not have done anything to improve the situation anyway, but only to silence some who care to participate in those threads or those who want opinions posted that they can read.

'Hide thread' works perfectly well without silencing opinion. Or even the method I use: Don't bother clicking on those threads.

17. We need a vote on it , then we would know how the MAJORITY of the DU feels
about the feature, right now the DU management canceled the feature, and maybe the MAJORITY of the DU wanted the feature.

I would like an official vote, MAJORITY rules. Thats only fair, Right?

24. heh - responses to snarky polls tend to be snarky
picks up some noise (ala snark at all the house threads). Not quite a way to sample the overall opinion on the feature.

On EarlG's thread I found it interesting that both the pro and cons were claiming that they were in the 'silent majority'.

Me, I was skeptical of the feature - though I thought that the addition of the view the block list made it more interesting - esp when could see how sparingly it was used. Did see some behavior that I thought was problematic - but rules could have been tweaked to address that - I would have liked to have seen the results (eg behaviors/effect on forums) had the feature lasted until Feb. 1.

OMG, let's cocoon ourselves from the world:crazy:
If you don't like the Edwards threads, don't go into them. We still have an ignore thread feature.

This is the first one I've even posted in and was just thinking to hide all the house threads.
