Texas woman calls 911 over lack of shrimp in fried rice
HALTOM CITY, Texas - A woman called 911 to report she didn't get as much shrimp as she wanted in her fried rice at a Texas restaurant.

Haltom City police on Tuesday released the taped emergency call, in which the customer is heard telling the dispatcher, "to get a police officer up here, what has to happen?"

The customer also says: "He didn't even put extra shrimp in there."

The upset customer had left the Fort Worth-area restaurant when an officer arrived Monday afternoon.

Restaurant workers say the woman had been denied a refund after leaving with her order, then returning to complain.

Cook June Lee says nothing was wrong with the meal, and that "some customers are happy. Some are not."

12. I guess technically it was over the restaurant not giving a refund.
Anyone in retail for very long has encountered a customer who wants to call the cops over a refund.

I don't know why, but I really hate headlines like that. I know they are supposed to be cute and make people read the stories, but they are deliberately misleading, and they do shape people's opinions. I remember when McDonalds was sued over their coffee, the headline reduced a complex case and ruling to "Woman wins millions from McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on herself." That headline still shapes the way people see that case, and tort reform in general.

But no one cares what I think. For good reason, probably. :)

which doesn't seem to be the case here.

21. True story
I traveled to one of the islands in the Eastern Caribbean two years ago. Well I had to fly to Mobay early in the morning for the hub and just had coffee and a danish. The flight left shortly before mid-day and they only served red meat lunch which I don't eat. Finally I reach my hotel starving so I check around and see a nice restaurant with some good music playing. I ordered a beer and a shrimp dish.

When the dish arrived (nearly US$30), there were three shrimp in the plate. I asked the server nicely if they were serious and the poor man said dat is what they serve. I asked him to call the manager. When she arrived I asked her if she got away with that regularly and she said people paid more for the music, but she'd add two more shrimp. I asked her to bring the bill for the beer and walked out laughing.

I decided it wasn't work getting upset although I was really hungry. I went to a Tai restaurant two doors down and they gave me more food than I can eat for $US12 and the service was excellent.

I don't see myself ever calling the cops over obvious criminality in restaurants but I can see someone else reaching that stage.

Ahhh, Fort Worth-- my hometown, and proof of Satan's existence....

If it's seafood in Ft. Worth, it's not an emergency, merely an idle curiosity. However, if it's poorly cooked bar-b-q we're talking about, call 911 RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!!! :P
